Tabtouch-Pinjarra Cup (LR)
The Bob Peters-raced stayer Dark Alert ran out an easy winner, his eighth win in 23 starts and his first at stakes level. He enjoyed a perfect trip in third place, tracking a solid tempo before William Pike brought him up to challenge rounding the home turn, they took the lead at the 200m and then drew away to win easily. My Magic Miss had a run in fourth place, went to second at the 200m and then battled on well to hold second, having no chance with the winner while Sunset Superman was last in the seven-horse field before making late ground to take third. The $1.70 favourite Material Man, who was chasing his third successive stakes success, went to the front but was pressured from the 800m (by Zarantz) and weakened on turning for home to finish (5.5 lengths) fourth, after a challenging trip.
