Heading into the final three months of the racing season, popular fly-in jockey Anthony Darmanin is eyeing off his first-ever Tasmanian jockeys' premiership.

With 14 meetings remaining, Darmanin holds an 11-win break over Codi Jordan, apprentice Erica Byrne Burke, and the currently injured David Pires in equal third.

Despite the lack of backing from a major stable, Darmanin has been at the top of the table for most of the season and is keen to win his first title.

"Things are going really well, I've had a really good season, I've had really good support from a lot of trainers, hopefully I can hold on.

"The rides are starting to dry up a little bit; Codi has got a good stable behind her, so it should be a good race to the finish," Darmanin said.

"I'm going to Bali in June, it's my brother's 50th birthday, and I might have another week in Thailand," Darmanin explained, giving Jordan a chance to bridge the gap.

As it stands, Darmanin has ridden 49 winners from 288 rides at 17%, Jordan has 38 winners from 208 rides at a slightly better 18.40%. With Pires (currently sidelined) striking at 17.3% and Byrne Burke 13.4% it would be hard to see them coming from 16 wins behind.

Darmanin has just a small book of rides at the Hobart meeting but looks to have a winning chance on most of them, starting with Geegeehailstorm in the 1200m 2YO & 3YO maiden.

"I think it's a chance; the other day, she was a little unlucky; she couldn't get out at a vital stage. She's a horse that needs momentum, so hopefully, we can have a bit of luck."

Darmanin rides We All Decide in the 1200m maiden, who looks like a chance after two runs in from a spell. He then partners with the consistent Thunberg in the 1100m BM68 and rounds out his day on Blonde Star in what looks to be a competitive 1400m class 1.

"It's actually a strong race, there's a few there you can say that would win; Blonde Star the other day had no luck at all; I'm hoping we get a bit of luck this time and get the job done."

It's an early start to the nine-race card, kicking off at 11.58. Matt Reid and Richard Robinson will be trackside with all the interviews and all the winners for TasracingTV.

My best bets are Blonde Star. As 'Darma' mentioned, it was a very unlucky last start that followed an impressive win at this track. Each way, I will be watching for Miles 'N' Miles in the 2100m maiden/class 1. The 3YO has been itching to get out to this trip, finishing hard over 1600m at his past two runs.
