TAB Melbourne Cup & Big Dance Race Day is upon us and it’s a strong program here in Canberra, highlighted by the TAB Federal Road to the Chest. There is a slot in the $200,000 Canberra Community Chest up for grabs and there is an appropriately strong field to do battle.

At time of writing, we are on a Soft-5 but with some rain due overnight ahead of race day, I’m doing the numbers assuming a wetter track.

Race 4 #9 Vermicella

In a strong race, I’m with this Joe Cleary trained mare who flies first up.

Carrying a big weight first up last prep, she finished 3rd in town on a Wednesday on which was a very wet track.

Here, she get’s in on the minimum and maps nicely in a big field & high pressure race over 1300m. She ticks a lot of boxes and is currently around the $5 mark.

Race 6 #12 Silver Touch

There has already been a good move for this first starter for Keith Dryden & Libby Snowden.

She is a half-sister to the great Single Gaze and boy her trial was lovely. I think she could have put a space on them that day if asked.

She is by D’Argento and the breed seem to enjoy getting their toe in so I see the wet track as no issue.

This looks a lovely race to start what I suspect will be a good career.
