The top selections in the Cup.
The Group 1 Melbourne Cup will be run over 3200m at Flemington on Tuesday.
Knight's Choice won last year’s edition after Without A Fight (2023), Gold Trip (2022), Very Elleegant (2021) and Twilight Payment (2020) before him.
Snapshot of the race below:
This is as wide open as it gets - literally any horse can win this year's edition of the Melbourne Cup, especially because the track has been ransacked with rain.
However, it feels like the horse to beat is VALIANT KING.
The Chris Waller-trained grey will be carrying the bottom weight (51kg), something which will go a long way in Tuesday's two-mile wet slog.
Additionally, the six-year-old has been in fantastic form, winning the Bart Cummings (2520m) by 2.8 lengths and placing in the Caulfield Cup (2400m).
While any horse can win this race, Valiant King is the one who stands out.
Along with Valiant King you can't count out VAUBAN.
The now Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained eight-year-old was right in the market in the past two Melbourne Cup's, yet failed to live up to expectations.
Will it be third times a charm for the import?
CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD is the interesting runner in the field at massive odds.
The seven-year-old had a fantastic win earlier this spring at 2400m, before following up that run with a last-place finish in the Group 1 Metropolitan (2400m).
While that may sound poor on paper, the gelding was actually trotted on in that race, granting him a complete forgive run.
He's worth a look at long odds.
