Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - BRAVO CENTURION (6) has been a force to be reckoned with this campaign, continuing to raise the bar and bolting in over this trip by 4.8L last start. He's an exciting commodity moving through the ranks and we mightn't have seen the best of him yet. Should be on the speed and take plenty of catching. UNDER INFLUENCE (3) ran over the top to score as favourite last start and shapes as the main danger after a few key scratchings. LORD GANNICUS (1) will obviously be better over further but could poke into the placings late.
RACE 2 - BERNBRAE (5) has returned in good order, finishing 3.3L off a good winner in heavy conditions last time out. She should be suited by the rise in trip and the blinkers come off now. She's placed 2/3 third-up and with a nice run in transit anticipated, she can run over the top and end her winning drought. QUEEN OF JERUSALEM (2) fronts up again following a tough effort last start over 2200m here. Draws the inside and should get her chance again as she drops back in grade. Best form is good enough to win a race of this calibre. MASTER TACTICIAN (4) steps out to this distance for the first time after an impressive win over 1650m last start. The step up in distance doesn't appear an issue and he still has improvement to come being lightly raced. Can make an impact. FLASH PADDY (1) was far too good last start and can go on with the job. RED DWARF (6) is better than he's shown his past couple and is not to be discounted.
RACE 3 - ARCADIA PARK (4) came to town last start and out performed his market expectation, running 1.2L off the winner at this track and trip. Pike hops back in the saddle now from a favourable alley. Looks to have good ability and he should sit closer in the run this time. Can shed the maiden tag. MEAN MACHINE (2) held on to score in a photo finish over 1200m a fortnight ago and steps up to 1400m for the first time today. He looks to be trending the right way and he wasn't far away in a good form race over 1300m at Pinjarra second-up this time in. Likely to be in this for a long way. SECRET INTENT (9) rattled home on debut at Pinjarra to miss by 0.6L and he's bound to go close with improvement expected. BATTLE COMMANDER (1) just missed here two back and should be in the finish again.
RACE 4 - LOVA SESSION (3) was far too good over 1300m here on Heavy going last start, bolting in by 4L. That run stood up to his efforts prior which were also high ratings when beaten narrowly. Racing in top form and he can go back-to-back if she runs up to form. KEEP ATTACKING (2) closed off well behind a progressive type over this course and distance last week, beaten 1.5L. That rating has him at the pointy end here and the fact Pike goes on from an inside alley is a big tick. Can go a couple better this time around. COCKTAIL PARTY (7) resumed with a big win over 1000m, leading throughout. Out to this trip where she has placed 2/3 previously and she is a second-up winner in the past. Maps well once again and will be in this for a long way. CHAMPEZE (9) held on to win in a photo last start and is sure to go close again. DIVINE FLIRT (1) blew out first-up but usually improves second-up. Back slightly in trip helps and she can feature.
RACE 5 - DEFERRED (4) jumped awkwardly and ended up too fat back on a slow tempo when a beaten favourite here a fortnight ago. She was only 0.8L away there and she had excuses on the day. Her sectionals suggest she should've gone close to winning and she can return to the winner's stall this time around. NO BRAINER (3) is an exciting prospect on the way up, leading all the way to win by 0.3L last start. Should be prominent in the run again for Brad Parnham and suspect we haven't seen the best of him yet. Can continue to improve and put his best foot forward. LOST CITY (8) disappointed at the end of last campaign but the stable has reset and she looks in good touch judging by her latest trial. Pike sticks from that outing and he's won 2/5 when on board. Best form is right up to a race like this and she's expected to feature heavily. INFLUENCING (2) can improve on a solid return down the Pinjarra Straight. JELLY CAN RUN (5) has strong claims after just missing last start.
RACE 6 - DESERT NYMPH (2) continues to race the bar, winning by 0.4L in tougher company last start and posting a high rating in doing so. On the quick turnaround today, but back in grade and she has enough early speed to offset the sticky barrier. Finds a nice race again and can bring up her fourth win in-a-row. BRAVE STRIKE (4) just missed over 1300m here 17 days ago to continue her strong run of form. Out to 1400m again today but that doesn't appear an issue judging by her latest effort. Maps for a cosy run in transit and it wouldn't surprise to see her go one better. CRUISE TO VICTORY (7) disappointed last start following a strong win over this course and distance two back. He ticks plenty of boxes today with the winkers going on and dropping plenty of weight. Can return to winning form. HONEY DEW (6) wasn't beaten far last start and has claims with that form already being franked. PLAYHOUSE PATRON (1) has claims dropping back in trip.
RACE 7 - TOROPA (8) has been freshened following her 0.8L defeat over this course and distance 35 days ago. This is her toughest test yet, but she is a progressive talent who looks destined for better races. Maps to get every chance and can remain unbeaten. SENTIMENTAL BELLE (2) will make a race of it though following a 0.6L defeat behind Desert Nymph (Race 6) last time out. She rates highly without winning her past couple and she's won on the quick turnaround previously. Appears the main danger. LENIENCY (4) was slowly away and never features in tough conditions here a fortnight ago. Happy to overlook this effort as it sets up nicely for him third-up. Fresh run was superb and he'll go close if he returns to that form. SNIPPY WHICH (7) was no match for a dominant winner last start but has plenty of ratings from last campaign good enough for this. Strips fitter as well. SUNNY HONEY (3) has claims off a solid effort last time out.
RACE 8 - The feature of the day and TRIPLE JAY (5) looks the one to beat again. He came from nowhere to win last start as favourite and drops back to his preferred track and trip today. He ticks plenty of boxes with Pike riding from an inside alley and he drops in weight. He can extend his winning streak. SALOON BAR (7) was terrible in the Idyllic Prince last start but didn't handle the heavy going, sitting out the back throughout. He gets in at the bottom of the weights today and a firmer surface is expected with Steve Parnham reuniting with the gelding. Drawn well and can flip his form right around. VAST ART (8) is ready to peak now following a strong run in the Idyllic Prince last time out, beaten 2.9L. CJP rides now and he gets a nice pull in the weights. Watch for him flashing late. MAGNIFICENT ANDY (1) is the class horse of the field and boasts a strong fresh record. GINGER BAKER (2) was good from the front last start and usually improves with a run under the belt.
RACE 9 - HEMLOCK STONE (2) ran over the top to bolt in at this course and distance last time out. That was in Heavy going, but he had been trending the right way prior to that effort. Should get his chance again this time around and he can continue to work his way through the grades. SIMPLY (7) resumed with an impressive win at Pinjarra, running over the top to win by 0.3L. He now gets Pike in the saddle and suspect there's more to come from this lightly raced galloper. The rise in trip suits and he's expected to be doing his best work late in the race. IN GOOD ORDER (3) just missed first-up over 1300m here after getting to the Derby at the end of last campaign. Chris Parnham sticking is a positive sign and with improvement expected, he can make his presence felt in the finish. KERMAN ROCK (5) disappointed last start after a good fresh effort. He's better than that and can bounce back today.
