Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - BAYBOUGG (9) just missed here heavily bet and raced a little new. He will have taken fitness and experience from that and is in light with the 2kg claim. She can win with average luck in the run. SUPER CUTTER (6) is also third-up and just missed 3 weeks ago. She has the early speed to manage the wide gate and fitter will give a sight. MONCLERE (13) did enough first-up to suggest he's a chance. Won two trials leading into that and a leading hoop stays aboard. TWICE THE ICE (12) also draws awkwardly but his debut run was better than the form line suggests. In good hands and quick improvement is likely.
RACE 2 - RALPH THE ROCKET (4) came off a luckless run on the synthetic to miss narrowly here over 1420m That's good form and the extra metres should suit. Maps well and a top hoop sticks aboard. SIR TOROBEEL (5) has been narrowly beaten both starts this preparation since the switch from a Victorian barn. He has more up his sleeve and is a winning chance. FIORENTE DE LEGEND (7) peaks on a quick backup. He's been plainer since the first-up win but will be better back to the mile and is in the mix. MISS VIVACE (10) brings strong form from the synthetic. Maps well and can't be ruled out back on the turf.
RACE 3 - ELEGANTLY WRITTEN (5) is third up and has set down a positive foundation. Has a better gate today and has more to give. Has the first time blinkers applied and should go close. BOUNTY BAY (11) went close twice here before a plainer run on the synthetic. Comes back 220m and has been kept on the fresh side. Finally draws a low barrier and is a winning chance. CAPTAIN CAM (3) spiked his figures narrowly beaten at Launceston. Has the rail and 2kg claim and might be worth another chance over this distance. MIHOKO TAKEO (8) will be fitter and has some nice pieces of form over this distance. Expect quick improvement.
RACE 4 - VERBANO (6) had been around the mark and then spiked his figures winning the 66 over this distance. 4x winning rider Pires is aboard today and she can go on with the job. CHARLIE BUCKET (2) resumes and is right up to this if presented on song. Flies on the fresh side and this course and distance. Brings an easy trial win and Darmanin is off the above to ride. The betting will be key. FURNEAUX (8) raced forward and won a 60 comfortably as expected. Deserved that and maps for the run of the race. A chance to repeat. I'M SO COOL (3) resumes and is at his best over longer. Has a handy 2kg claim and no surprise to see him finish hard.
RACE 5 - SKY EAGLE (9) got off the mark over 1100m at this track last start scoring by 1.75 lengths. Is lightly raced and has plenty of scope for improvement. Maps well and is capable of taking the next step. The Keys yard has a strong hand and the betting will be key with this trio. DYSART (1) resumes with a handy 2kg claim and has won this course/trip Has the best peaks and is a decent chance if presented forward. Newitt rides TURF PUZZLE (8) who will be better for the first-p run. He races forward and fitter is likely to give a sight. QUEEN OF MALWA (3) resumes with Pires booked. The former Victorian usually needs a run but has the ability and she may be more forward this time around.
RACE 6 - NICCO THE GREEK (6) won the 68 first-up and then wasn't beaten far the same grade as favourite after stepping up to 1400m. Comes back to the shorter sprint with weight relief and will be fitter. He's likely to finish hard and is a decent chance to bounce. FAKE MAGIC (4) won the CL4 and then wasn't beaten far at this level. Keeps the 2kg claim and the rails gate should advantage. A live contender. GALENUS (1) finished just behind the above last time and will hit this race at peak fitness. Keeps the handy 2kg claim and he can never be ruled out. FREAK ON A LEAD (5) resumes for the same yard and is good enough. He likes to run along and has to be kept safe.
RACE 7 - ZULU ANGEL (5) has just missed both starts this preparation with the latest as favourite stepping up to this distance. He has won 2/3 third-up and keeps Newitt. May position handier and can go one better. JOHNNIE PINCH (7) wasn't far away here and then delivered a CL1 win on the synthetic. Maps well and is a Listed placegetter over further. Has been kept fresh and is a chance to go one better. RICH CLAN (4) was beaten 1L in a 68 over 1400m and that stacks up. Races forward and has a handy 2kg claim today. DAYAN STAR (2) continues to race well and there was only a nose in it in a CL2 7 days ago. Newitt gets off but he's in the mix again.
RACE 8 - A good race. JUST A NEEDS (4) is Stakes placed and has been nudged out all three runs this preparation. The middle distance looks ideal and she can take this out in her current form. KALIUWAA FALLS (3) peaks off a solid effort in the same contest and gives every impression the longer journey will suit. Maps well and will get every chance. SIR SIMON (1) accounted for the trio above leading over the mile. Gets more weight but the veteran has won over this distance and can't be ruled out.
RACE 9 - IN THE OCEAN (3) resumed further improved when beaten a lip this grade and then won the CL1 comfortably. He's promising and maps well. Fitter and can take the next step. NAVAL ANTHEM (2) is a danger presenting off a deserved 64 win. The 2kg claim offsets some of the weight lift and he maps for the run of the race on a 7-day return. PASHEONA (4) has won and placed her last two and will be fitter. The latest stacks up and she's a hope with average luck in the run. BELLASARIO (5) has a similar form profile and coming back to the turf shouldn't bother. May give them a start but she also deserves consideration.
