Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - THE TOP BAR (1) has been back to the trials since fading over 1400m at this course 39 days ago, beaten 2.1L. CJP was on board for that recent trial, and he sticks with the gelding today. Has shown good early speed and with fitness on his side, he can get the job done returning to midweek grade. STAR SUPREME (6) is on debut following a big trial win recently. She's a half-sister to two multiple winners and Chris Parnham remains with the filly following her recent trials. Looks to have good ability and can make an immediate impact. NICELY PLAYED (4) showed enough on debut when beaten just 1.6L over this track and trip in Saturday company. Fitter and more experienced now, this looks a touch easier and she's sure to take plenty of catching. THIS'LL SHOW YA (3) had been knocking on the door for a while and finally scored last start at Northam. Can go on with the job now.
RACE 2 - ALLENTOWN (11) couldn't go on with the job when looming large in the straight, peaking on the run to end up 4.1L off a good winner. We'll see that form in the first, though this does look an easier race. Chris Parnham takes the ride now from a good draw, and with added fitness he can shed the maiden tag. AMAROO STAR (12) was very good in his only public trial on August 5, winning by 0.9L. Holly Watson remains with the galloper from that trial and he showed plenty of ability when running through the field to score in his trial. Expecting a bright start to his career. ULTIMATE PARADISE (8) bumped into a good race two back before a 1.8L defeat at Northam last start over 1100m. Campbell's claim comes in handy and coming back to this trip is no issue. Can be right in the finish again. KIMBERLEY CURRENCY (2) bounced back to form last start and comes through the same race as Ultimate Paradise. Include. REGGIO CALABRIA (6) trialled well and can resume with a bold effort.
RACE 3 - AUDREY GRACE (1) got a long way back over 1300m here last start and should be ready to hit her peak now third-up. She's a winner third-up previously and the tongue tie is reapplied today. Building nicely this campaign and looks the one to beat with further improvement. CHAMPEZE (2) comes through a good race last start where she was beaten 4L following a smart fresh victory. This is easier than what she faced last time out, and a heavy track won't hurt. Can bounce back in a big way. CHARLIE JANE (5) bumped into a sharp galloper at Pinjarra last time out and wasn't that far away at the finish. Slightly up in trip should help and if she can get back to her best form, she'll be right in the finish. NATURAL GEM (3) won well two back before a disappointing effort over 1200m last time out. Chris Parnham now takes the ride and further improvement is expected. BORN TO BE LUCKY (6) can build on a solid first-up run.
RACE 4 - CANNY ROCK (2) got the job done three starts ago and has been very competitive in stronger races than this in recent efforts. Back to midweek level is a big tick and is he can run up to his recent efforts today, he'll be very hard to hold out. TRIO (6) ran away to score impressively over this trip at Northam last time out when a heavy favourite. He put up a good figure in doing so and while this is tougher, he looks to have found his groove now. Can make his presence felt once again. WHY ME (7) went through to the Derby last campaign and has switched to the Steele Casey barn since that effort. Trial was only fair coming in, though he's raced well over this trip previously. Won't be far away. FAMOUS DAIN (3) got the job done first-up at Bunbury and draws well again today. Can go on with the job. TALK TO WYN (5) was too good on debut at Pinjarra (S) and has to be included.
RACE 5 - GREAT DEMON (1) started this campaign in much tougher company and now drops back to midweek grade after jumping favourite in Saturday company 18 days ago. Last time he was in this grade, he won narrowly over a similar trip at Bunbury. He maps well and looks poised to strike third-up. ISHKUR (6) continues to improve, rattling home from the back last start to just miss at Pinjarra over 1400m. The extra trip looks to suit, and she may be able to sit a touch closer from the inside alley. CJP remains in the saddle and a repeat of her latest effort would see her go close. MINE HOST (8) jumped favourite in the same race as Ishkur last start and hit the line almost locked together. The wide draw is a niggle, though his recent ratings stack up well and it wouldn't surprise to see him return to winning ways. MASTER TACTICIAN (2) stuck on well from midfield at Pinjarra last start and has the ratings to match. ZERO CONSEQUENCE (4) will find this easier and is not to be discounted.
RACE 6 - CRESCENT CITY (7) kept on well from midfield last time out, finishing 2.8L off the winner over 1400m. Fitter and further are both big ticks, with Pike remaining in the saddle from a good alley. Drops sharply in weight and can turn the tables on his rivals with a win today. ADMIRATION EXPRESS (5) looks to be recapturing her 3YO form following some hiccups over the past 12 months, just missing in a good race over the mile here 25 days ago. CJP can have her in a good spot in running and if she runs up to what she produced last start, she'll be right in the finish. TRIPLE JAY (4) beat his rivals in a similar race over 1400m last start when kicking away from the front to win by 1.1L. Out to this trip for the first time which is the question, but he's relatively bombproof and will make his own luck. Can win again without surprising. UPPER LIMITS (9) is ready to peak now third-up and won't be far away. DESENNEA (8) can build on a good win last time out.
RACE 7 - FLASH PADDY (1) wasn't far away over 2200m last time out, beaten just 1.9L in wet conditions at this track. That was in Saturday Company, and he now drops back to midweek grade today. His figures stack up well in this field and if he can hold his form, he'll take plenty of beating. THE FINAL BELLE (8) is a lightly-raced mare out to this trip for the first time, with the booking of Chris Parnham a positive lead. She stuck on well over 1760m as favourite last time out and the extra distance doesn't seem an issue. Improving mare who can make her presence felt. MR TALENTINO (5) relished the tough going last start to win by 1.1L on the quick turnaround over 2200m. Fiore remains in the saddle and he only rises 0.5kg. Expecting him to be right in the finish once again. JIVE KING (4) got the job done in good fashion at Northam last start and can build on that performance. BAMBUN BOY (2) is better than he produced last time out and is not to be discounted back to the midweeks.
RACE 8 - COVERT ROSE (5) was building nicely before a 3.1L defeat over the mile here last time out. She can tend to dip third-up, but she can bounce back today with Pike remaining in the saddle. She can work across from the outside alley and take plenty of catching from up on the pace. ARCADIA KNIGHT (10) looks to be working his way through the grades nicely, just missing in a CL3 at Northam last time out. He draws a better gate today and he drops in weight. He has figures good enough to win a race like this and he's sure to be in the finish. KERMAN ROCK (8) was very good first-up and usually shows good improvement second-up. He has enough speed to cross from a sticky draw and he should be right in the finish if he runs up to what he produced last time out. ICEBERGS (3) was just plain first-up but the form out of that race has been good, Second-up winner previously and won't be far away. SNAZZLER (2) won narrowly at Northam last start and posted a good rating in doing so. Worth thought.
RACE 9 - DIVINE FLIRT (4) resumes today on the back of a couple handy trials coming into this. She has a good fresh record and was only narrowly beaten on resumption first-up last campaign. The senior jockey goes on now and she has the speed to cross from the draw. Can score a first-up win. IN GOOD ORDER (3) made it all the way to the Derby last campaign where he wasn't beaten far. This may be short of his best, though the booking of Parnham suggests he may be ready to go first-up. Worked through the grades nicely last campaign and can return in similar form. PRINCESS IN RED (8) won a recent trial leading into this and still looks to have plenty of improvement to come. She maps to get every chance for Campbell, and she'll take beating at the bottom of the weights. ENTICING (9) hasn't been far away his past couple and is sure to be in the finish once again. PRETTY DEVINE (10) was good fresh and is not to be discounted.
RACE 10 - SENTIMENTAL BELLE (2) is racing in strong form of late, running over the top to win again here last time out by 0.8L. Pike rides from a favourable alley once again and getting away from the inside probably helps her chances. Can make it four in a row in this suitable race. FLURO NEURO (1) disappointed last time out, beaten 11L following a good start to the campaign. Getting back to this trip suits and the Winkers replace the blinkers. Best form is good enough and he can recapture that form with a nice setup today. BRAVE STRIKE (6) is on the quick turnaround following a 1.6L defeat over 1200m on August 10. She's been doing her best work late in races and the slight rise in trip appears to suit. Can put herself into the finish once again. PROBITY (8) is better than he showed last start and can bounce back.
