Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - WEDNESDAY'S BOSS (10) is close to breaking through after successive runner-up finishes at Hobart in past two outings. Looks nicely off here and should go close. GEE GEE SALTBUSH (6) has been racing on the synthetic of late at Devonport where form has been mixed. Gets back on the turf here and should not be dismissed. RED FOX (2) is having his first start since coming over from the mainland. Has trialled up nicely for return run and any market support should be monitored.
RACE 2 - FOREIGN LEGION (3) has been racing in solid fashion on the synthetic track of late when pushing forward. Steps up in trip here and gets back on the turf. Is sure to give a bold sight. SHAMUS EAGLE (8) struggled to run the trip at Bendigo last time. Lines up for first start for new stable and can certainly make a bold bid here. SUN HALO (10) produced an improved showing last time when filling a place at Devonport. Gets back on the turf here and has to be respected. STERREK (9) was a little plain last time but previous run had loads of merit and is worthy another chance.
RACE 3 - ELEGANTLY WRITTEN (9) failed to flatter in resuming run off a break at Hobart, but wasn't all that far away. Is going to strip fitter and did win here before a break. Has solid claims. GEE GEES ME BOY (10) led them up but weakened on the synthetic track at Devonport last time. Previous run on the turf was good and improvement is on the cards here. WHO CAN IT BE NOW (7) got on the board with a strong win at Hobart last time. Looks a strong hope to go back-to-back here. NIGHT ACTION (3) is a former mainland galloper that made a good start for his new stable when successful at Devonport. Will be improved by that run and has claims again.
RACE 4 - SANDUAL (6) was a winner at Hobart three runs back and past couple have been a little plain. Craig Newitt sticks with him and he's expected to take plenty of beating. CHICANE (7) had been a model of consistency before disappointing last time. Can bounce back against this lot. RODRICK'S SECRET (13) ran below expectations on the synthetic at Devonport last time. Previous run at Hobart was solid and he's worth another chance here.
RACE 5 - ZOETE'S ROCK (8) was off a break when scoring a comfortable first-up win on the synthetic surface at Devonport after being heavily supported. Form before a break had been strong and can continue the good work here. Must be respected. IN THE OCEAN (1) resumed with a solid effort at Hobart having broken maiden with a strong win here to close out previous campaign. Will be fitter this time and has strong claims. BLOOMTIME (6) is returning from a break. Closed off last campaign with a maiden win at this track. Did win a recent trial and must be respected fresh.
RACE 6 - ZULU ANGEL (4) came off a break with an excellent first-up effort at Hobart. Has been kept up to the mark with a recent trial and is expected to give this a shake. ASVA (2) showed vast improvement second-up when filling a place at Hobart. Should be further improved by that outing and has to be respected. THE SPIRIT OF ZERO (3) has performed solidly in both runs this campaign and is closing in on a win. Is sure to make a bold bid here. GOLDEN PROPHET (5) ran out of puff first-up but is going to strip fitter this time for that run. Looks a likely improver against this lot.
RACE 7 - FAKE MAGIC (5) struck winning form with a solid win at Hobart last time at double figure odds. Form leading up to that had been sound and can again give a bold sight here. TONY NICCONI (4) may be getting long in the tooth but he is still racing well. Gets some weight relief with the claim and a forward showing is on the cards again. PHILOSOPHERS STONE (7) produced a solid on-pace effort to land the prize at Devonport last time. Only has to repeat that effort to give this a shake. GEEGEELUCKYSTAR (10) has been a little plain in recent efforts but gets some nice weight relief here. Looks a threat in this line-up.
RACE 8 - FURNEAUX (3) has returned this campaign in excellent order winning first-up at Hobart before two placings at that track. Gets some weight relief here with the claim and has strong winning claims. PASHEONA (6) is a former mainland galloper that got the money narrowly at her first start for new stable. Will derive benefit from that run and has to be respected here. ELMAJAY (11) led and knocked-up last time after a good performance at Devonport in previous outing. Has the credentials to bounce back here. Don't dismiss. QUICKEN UP (5) led until the shadows last time. Is nearing a win and is expected to give this a shake.
