Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - MESROUR (2) was far from disgraced last start when tackling the Listed Lightning Stakes. Strikes a much easier assignment this time and is drawn to get all the favours. The one to beat. SIR NOW (1) didn't give his rivals a sniff last start when leading pillar-to-post here. Kept fresh for this with four weeks between runs. Expecting him to push forward again and give a bold sight. Main danger. KNOPFLER (4) is the only remaining runner from the Jolly stable in this race which is worth noting. Has looked good at the trials and it wouldn't surprise to see him make an immediate impact.
RACE 2 - NICISH (8) is going much better than her form suggests. Has been finding the line nicely without threatening and comes through some hot form races. Crowther reuniting is a bonus. Can run a big race. QUANAH (4) was an impressive debut winner at Gawler when leading from go-to-woah. Has more to offer and is drawn to advantage. Expect him to take some catching. WINE BARRON (3) disappointed last start when sent out as favourite at Murray Bridge. Worth noting blinkers go on first time and Pannell reunites. Can improve sharply. SIX STARS (2) scored a deserved maiden win in fine style last start. Kept fresh for this with a 42-day break and has gun hoop in Toeroek re-engaged. One of the key chances. ON THE SCENT (1) returns and it's worth noting he started last campaign in good style when in the placings at Strathalbyn. Worked well to the line in his lead-up trial and is drawn to get all the favours. Can threaten.
RACE 3 - COMMISSIONS (2) gave backers a bold sight on debut at Murray Bridge but just lacked a fitness edge late. Is sure to have come on with that run under the belt and is a leading player. DUCHESS OF SUSSEX (11) has been thereabouts in her two runs back. Strips fitter third-up and is expected to be hitting her peak. The extra 150m should suit. PAPPIANA (17) never looked likely first-up when settling a mile back but did make some late inroads to finish midfield. Better for the hit-out and will be climbing over their backs late. GOLDRUSH GURU (6) returns for the Gluyas yard. Was thrown in the deep end last start when tackling the G3 Breeders' Stakes. Faces nothing of the sort first-up and will pay to watch what the market does with him. SNOOPY NOW (9) will drift back from the wide alley and be saved for the final shot at them. Keep safe.
RACE 4 - LAKE'S FOLLY (2) doesn't win out of turn but has been ultra-consistent this campaign. Meets a few of these better at the weights this time with the 3kg claimer engaged, after flashing home last start at Murray Bridge. Rates highly on best figures and can get the job done. GOLDEN HIPS (8) has been in terrific form this campaign, notching up his third win of the prep last start at Sale. Gets a key booking in Holder and only needs to hold his form to give this a big shake. FOX GEM (7) lengthened nicely in the lane to get the verdict last start over 2500m at Murray Bridge. Shorter trip this time but is worth including. Cases can also be made for TEST THE LAW (1) and DIXIE WHISTLER (3).
RACE 5 - PLATINUM WOLF (1) was only fair to the line when resuming off a long break at Murray Bridge. Improvement to come second-up. Tough to stop on best form. MISS BARILOCHE (5) made light work of her rivals last start on the syntho. Tougher this time but has her share of ability and gets a key jockey booking in Holder. BIT OF A REBEL (3) has run in three solid form races to kick off this campaign. Nearing his peak now and gets in well at the weights with the 2kg claimer re-engaged. CHARM SLINGA (10) was an eye-catching winner last start at Gawler. Is a capable type on his day and could prove tough to hold out if he can utilise the inside draw. Fellow last-start winner VEE ROD (8) also impressed but did it at the other end of the spectrum when leading. Drawn to advantage and will give another bold sight.
RACE 6 - ALPINE FLYER (5) chased solidly into the frame when resuming last start at Flemington in a strongly run race. This sets up perfectly for her second-up. The one to beat. DUNALLEY (10) dug deep to get the verdict when resuming at Murray Bridge. Not as effective last start in Victoria but can bounce back sharply with Toeroek reuniting. Immediate danger. CULLEN SKINK (9) found the line strongly to grab third when resuming here two back but couldn't follow it up at the latest when clearly below his best. In the mix on best figures. WILD IMAGINATION (3) chased soundly into a midfield finish when resuming here four weeks ago. Better suited over this journey but is drawn ugly. Keep safe. NEODIUM (8) is another likely improver and PRINCE JOFRA (1) is a course and distance specialist. Best to keep them onside as well.
RACE 7 - ANGELIC APPEAL (9) caught everyone's attention when flashing home to just miss first-up at Murray Bridge. Is sure to have come on with that run under the belt an is a track and trip winner. Top chance. WHISKEY HANGOVER (4) chased solidly into the placings when resuming at Bordertown in testing conditions. Not that much tougher this time and is another likely improver. CHAMBERS BAY (1) is always met with plenty of market support coming from the Stokes stable. Is more than capable on his day and is drawn to get all the favours. In the mix. KISS MY MILLO (7) progressed nicely last start at Warrnambool when flashing home from the rear to only miss by a head. Drawn wide again. Watch for him late in the piece.
RACE 8 - AVIATRESS (12) was the one everyone wanted to follow from the Lightning Stakes when flashing home from the rear to just miss Lingani, with the smart Kuroyanagi splitting them. Meets the winner 3.5kgs better at the weights this time and is drawn to settle much closer to the action. Bad luck her main threat. LINGANI (6) drove hard up the inside to get her head down to take out the Listed feature last start. Has been in superb form this campaign and deserves plenty of respect but is unsurprisingly worse off at the weights this time. CLASSY KENNY (7) is as true as the day is long. Always worth keeping onside along with HOWL (9) who boasts a strong fresh record and is not to be discounted.
RACE 9 - MAZOVIA (10) is a progressive four-year-old mare. Shooting for the hat-trick in her fourth start off the back of two strong finishing bursts. Clearly has her share of ability and is worth serious consideration. KALASEC (1) has improved with each run under his belt this campaign and is ready to peak. Just needs a smart steer from an ugly gate but has the right man in the saddle. LEFT TURN CLYDE (4) missed by a whisker to Mazovia when resuming at Murray Bridge. Meets her slightly worse at the weights this time but is a likely improver that needs to be considered. MAGIC FIELD (5) next best.
