Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - LITTLE PINKER (5) found one better over this trip third up and is ready to win. She can use the rail and the 31% stable striker Stanley rides first time. That's a decent push. RUN FREDA RUN (6) also found one too good on debut but covered and should enjoy the longer sprint. Needs an ounce of luck from the outside gate. BETTER THAN WORDS (7) just missed first-up and will be better for it. Needs to run out the longer sprint but has a 3kg claim today and will go close. CATMISS (8) finished just ahead of the above in that contest racing forward. Stanley gets off but she's a chance to go one better.
RACE 2 - COURTESY BUS (5) didn't get warm at Alpha but the form on each side of that reads well. Led and placed here in an Open three starts back and wasn't beaten far last time in a Townsville 74. Tumbles in weight and can lead all the way. DOLLAR DOLLAR (6) resumed at Mackay and he needed the run. He's proven second up and Stanley stays with him. He also has plenty of weight relief and is good enough. STAMPE (1) was outgraded at Townsville but the form prior would give him a chance. LETMELETGO (4) is much better than the two duck eggs suggest and is worth another chance.
RACE 3 - A good contest. PEPPERDINE (4) races forward and presents off a big 65 win here over 1500m. He can use the paint and a top hoop is aboard. Peaks and can go back to back. KNIFE'S EDGE (2) switched to the sharp Vandyke yard and has had two solid runs this preparation at Doomben in stronger. Carries more weight but country grade suits and fitter he gets his chance. ACROPHOBIC (1) was heavily-backed comfortably winning a sprint this grade making the hat-trick. Won an Open sprint by 4.6L prior over this distance and he keeps Stanley. He'll be fancied to go on with the job.
RACE 4 - LAMENTUM (6) switched from a top Sydney barn and was in it a long way at Doomben first-up. He'd been off the scene for a while and a key gear change and addition. Huxtable is abroad and is riding a stack of winners. He has plenty up his sleeve and country-grade suits. ARACELI (8) raced favourite third-up and found a distant placing. Led in that and Wiggins sticks aboard and will push forward again. Peaks and can stick on better. LIKE SMOKE (7) spiked his figures when beaten a nose at the Sunshine Coast. He has been kept on the fresh side and draws for a soft run. A winning chance if he holds the form.
RACE 5 - HELLISH (2) was heavily bet and missed a whisker first up following his switch from a strong Victorian barn. He's won a trial prior and has more to offer. Maps for the run of the race and it's hard to risk the potent Stanley-Taylor linkage. DISCOVERED GOLD (6) belted the Maidens on debut by 2.3L racing forward. That stacks up and she's advantaged by an inside barrier. Presents fitter and is a winning chance. OUR TURN NOW (1) resumes and has switched from a leading Victorian stable. He's won fresh and owns a trial win. He's good enough and the betting will be key. HOLLYWOOD ANGEL (5) resumes and showed plenty early doors. Wiggins is a positive jockey engagement and no surprise if she goes well.
RACE 6 - EARLY FUSION (5) peaks and seeks the hat-trick off easy wins. Carries more weight but he keeps improving. Huxtable stays aboard and he's in red-hot form. CITY PLAYBOY (4) comes back from a mile but that should advantage given the heavy conditions. He won as expected last time and was a big wet track Maiden winner three back. Wiggins sticking aboard is a positive. SANTORINI SUMMER (6) spiked his figures finding a place in a CL6. Finds easier with more weight and would only have to hold the form to make the finish. OOVII (9) has more to give second-up and Stanley is a key jockey switch replacing the apprentice.
RACE 7 - GENERAL WOLFFE (1) has threatened twice since the CL1 win and coming back 300m shouldn't bother. He's the one to beat on weights and measures but doubt the inside barrier will prove an advantage. That's the niggle. REPLACE THE ACE (4) was outgraded last start but missed a whisker the two before at this distance range. Maps well and can get back on track. STREET GLORY (5) peaks and has a handy 3kg claim today. He's a trifecta hope. Wiggins is booked on BRAIN FOG (3) who backs up quickly. She might be the one to add meat to the exotics.
