Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SAFE SATYR (1) ran over the top to win narrowly last month, putting up a solid winning rating at Belmont. The rise in trip looks right up his alley and that figure is better than what the rest of the field has produced. Maps for a lovely run and with further improvement expected, he's the one to beat. MEAN MACHINE (2) led them up over 1300m on the Scarpside here last start and was gunned down late, beaten 1.2L. Dropping slightly in trip may hold the key and he's likely to be prominent from the outset. May take some catching from up on the speed. SWINDLE THE DOUGH (4) never got a chance in the Perth Stakes on debut after trialling well going in. Spelled following that and he's been good at the trials this time around as well. Untapped and it wouldn't surprise to see him put his best foot forward. OUR EXISTENCE (3) can improve on the solid debut effort.
RACE 2 - DESERT WHISPER (16) is a lightly raced filly who bumped into a sharp winner at Belmont last time out. She draws ideally for the straight course and has the pace to hold her position down the outside fence. Hitting her peak third-up and the booking of Carbery reads well. Can shed the maiden tag. LE BEAU (6) disappointed last start at Belmont when fading out of the finish after sitting up on the speed. The 3kg claim of ZJP comes in handy and he won't be too far off the speed in running. Can bounce back. DONTTHINKJUSTDRINK (9) comes through the same race as Desert Whisper last start and is another who can be prominent from the outset with an outside draw. Big tick with CJP sticking and she's expected to take plenty of beating at her best. HYPERREAL (2) went close at the end of last campaign as favourite. Form out of that was good and he won't be far away if he returns in similar order. CHARINO (15) can make an impact on debut after trialling well coming in.
RACE 3 - ROYAL TORONADO (6) displayed plenty of ability in his previous campaign, contesting Group and Listed races before the break. He'll be fitter for his recent trial coming in and he was narrowly beaten in a similar race early last campaign. CJP rides and he's sure to have an immediate impact on return. ESTIMATOR (3) went close here on the Scarpside circuit last time out and draws a much better barrier today. He'll be up on the speed from the start and if he runs up to his recent efforts, he'll be very hard to run down. EEYORE WAYZ (1) drops into the easiest race he's contested in some time. His recent figures stack up nicely despite his finishing positions and the booking of Steve Parnham is a positive lead. Can turn his form around. LONSDALEITE (5) rattled home to just miss over 1000m at Belmont last start and is sure to go close again. DENNIS CHOUX (2) is undefeated second-up and must be respected.
RACE 4 - FAMEUX (1) is a midweek winner in Sydney making his Western debut for Team Williams. He's shown good ability in his career thus far and he'll be fitter for two trials leading in. Looks well placed in a race like this and can get the job done in his stable debut. LOT HO (11) got the job done impressively in a CL1 two back before not running the trip last time out. The wide draw is a big tick and he's sure to take plenty of catching down the outside fence. APACHE BLUE (8) is building nicely this campaign and gets the blinkers on again third-up into the campaign. He'll carry little weight after the 3kg claim and should be right in the finish with further improvement. SUNBRONZED (2) resumed in handy order at Belmont and can build on that run with the added fitness under his belt. MAKE YOUR POINT (4) ran behind a subsequent winner last start and won't be far away once again.
RACE 5 - WARRALEA LASS (8) got well back and never featured first-up behind a subsequent Saturday winner 21 days ago. Suspect that was just to blow the cobwebs out as she's straight up to the mile now where she has performed well previously. Needs some luck from the draw but rates highly and is the one to beat. QUEENSLAND DIESEL (4) won impressively two back before a solid effort over 1400m on the Scarpside course here 13 days ago. Now out to the mile for just the second time, though he draws a nice alley. Can be in the finish if he runs up to recent efforts. MASTER TACTICIAN (2) ran over the top to score two back at Bunbury before a good effort at Belmont a fortnight ago over 1700m. The wide draw doesn't sting as he tends to get back in the run anyway. Brad Parnham rides again and he looks poised to strike. DRINKS ON ME (1) can go on with the job following a first-up maiden victory. OCEAN RANGER (3) comes back from the Belmont Classic and has claims.
RACE 6 - BRAVO CENTURION (1) had shown good signs in an interrupted start to his career, before returning with a win at Belmont a fortnight ago in impressive fashion. He draws well this time and while he rises in weight, his last start rates highly, especially with improvement expected. Can repeat the dose. DELICATE RULER (2) drops back to this trip today after fading out of contention over 1400m at Belmont last time out. He was a good winner at Northam prior to that and ZJP's 3kg claim comes in handy. Can sit prominent in the run and is likely to be in this for a very long way. UNDERCOVER SNIPER (3) rises up to this trip fourth-up into the campaign after a solid 2.8L defeat at Bunbury 20 days ago. The wide draw is a little niggle, though CJP does stick and improvement is expected now. Can put his best foot forward. GOLD VANCOUVER (8) has placed 2/2 first-up and can feature. CHARLIE JANE (11) is better than she showed fresh and is a likely improver.
RACE 7 - KIRALUI (6) ran on strongly from midfield to get the job done first-up at Belmont in what was a peak rating for the mare. She still has upside and suspect similar tactics may be adopted from a sticky draw today. Up in grade, but she's trending the right way and can win again. LORD LALA (1) disappointed last time out in much tougher company following a solid effort at Belmont prior. This is the easiest grade he's been in since May and his ratings suggest he is better than what he showed last start. Live chance with a return to midweek company. ISHKUR (10) got the job done over this trip on the Scarpside course here 13 days ago and should have come on from that effort. CJP rides from a good alley and with improvement anticipated, she can repeat the dose. MINE HOST (12) was too good over this trip on the Scarpside last start and has winning claims. RIG A DIG (5) is ticking along nicely without winning this time in and is not to be discounted.
