Sands to salute at Tamworth

The seventh race at Tamworth is a 1200m Class 1 handicap with top weight Rock 'n' Reign expected to prove popular with punters.

The three-year-old showed ability in his barrier trials, including when third over 800m at Hawkesbury at the start of February prior to debuting here last month.

Jumping at $7.50 for that debut effort the soft 5 track appeared to suit with the three-year-old coming home a length clear of his rivals in a 1000m maiden.

The step up in distance is unlikely to pose any issues with Ashley Morgan up, however, the son of Fastnet Rock looks opposable jumping from a wide barrier here.

Todd Howlett's NYALI SANDS is preferred on this occasion, with the filly having demonstrated good form earlier this season.

The pick placed second on her first two starts, narrowly beaten on each occasion, including when jumping at big odds for a 1000m maiden at Muswellbrook on debut.

The three-year-old broke her maiden at the third attempt when successful by over half-a-length when odds-on for a 1300m maiden at Dubbo in September.

Victorious on a good 3 track that day, she acquitted herself well when a good fourth in a 1300m Class 1 handicap at Taree the following month.

The selection was beaten one-and-a-half-lengths that day and, while unproven on wet tracks, she trialled well ahead of her return.

Nipotino for Albury Spring success

The feature race at Albury is the seventh race on the card, the Albury Sprint Classic Handicap over 1000m.

The Ron Stubbs-trained Boss Lady Rocks heads the weights here, with the seven-year-old set to carry sixty-one-and-a-half-kilograms here.

The mare came home third when racing over 900m on a good 4 track when resuming at this venue in March.

However, the daughter of Street Boss was beaten over five-and-a-half-lengths that day and failed to shine when jumping at big odds at Mornington subsequently.

Preference in this contest is for NIPOTINO, who gets in off a nice racing weight following a fourth of six in a 1200m Class 3 handicap at Goulburn at the start of March.

The pick has been absent since that Goulburn effort, which came on the back of a good second in a 1200m Class 3 metro contest at Randwick the previous month.

The drop back in distance shouldn't pose too many issues as Hannah Williams' mount boasts a good barrier in two here.

The four-year-old returns from a let up here and he looks capable of registering his first win in over a year.

Tacito for Geelong glory

The penultimate race on the Geelong card is a 1325m Benchmark 64 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

While Sirius Statement is expected to feature prominently in the market following a narrow victory at Pakenham first up, it can pay to look elsewhere.

The filly raced against her own sex when getting home by a narrow margin that day and stepping up in grade may have to settle for minor honours.

Three-year-old TACITO is the pick here and he ran with credit when third in the 1000m Group 3 Chairman's Stakes at Sandown in February last year.

While the colt has made just five starts since, those efforts included a win in the 1200m Magic Millions SA 2yo Classic at Murray Bridge the following month.

The youngster was off for over a year prior to resuming with a third of six when contesting a Benchmark 64 handicap on the Lakeside track at Sandown last month.

While unable to build on that effort when last of five, beaten six lengths over 1300m in a Cranbourne Class 1 handicap, that effort can be overlooked.

The selection raced on a soft 6 track that day and, returning to the forecasted sound surface, he looks capable of recording the second win of his career.
