The champion hoop has made his selections.
Champion jockey Damien Oliver has provided a few tips for the upcoming Flemington Carnival.
‘Ollie’ has looked at Saturday’s Victoria Derby and Coolmore Stud Stakes while also forecasting forested to Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
See his tips below:
Victoria Derby
“I’m with the favourite (Observer), I think he’s the one to beat,” Oliver said on SEN WA Breakfast.
“He’s drawn well, he’s the class runner of the race. I think something needs to go wrong for him to get beat. But that extra 500 metres, you never quite know.
“Providence was a good run behind him the other day. And I don’t mind one at a bit of value, a horse called Deal Done Fast as an outsider.
“He’s drawn well too and I think will be suited by the extra distance.”
Coolmore
“I’m leaning towards Tentyris.
“I think his racing style will suit this race. He likes to sit out the back and launch late.
“That will suit him here with a bit of pace in this race. I think he’s ready to peak third-up.”
Melbourne Cup
“I like the Caulfield Cup form.
“If you pick one of those horses that ran in the first six - horses like Half Yours, Presage Nocturne and Valiant King - they’re the ones I’m fancying in the Melbourne Cup.
“We’re going to have a wet forecast for Monday and Tuesday so it looks like we’re going to have a wet Cup this year.”
