Treasurethe Moment lost the Might and Power Stakes
Globe has taken out the Group 1 Might and Power Stakes, knocking off Treasurethe Moment (second), Buckaroo (third) and Hezashoka (fourth).
Treasurethe Moment was the short-priced favourite heading into the million-dollar race at Caulfield but failed to live up to expectations.
The four-year-old mare started her spring on fire with a Group 1 win in the Memsie Stakes, but then it all went wrong.
The Matt Laurie trained bay suffered a mild case of colic and since returning the star has lost twice in a row - something the mare has never done before in her career.
SENTrack’s David Taggart is now questioning where Treasurethe Moment goes next.
“I don’t think she’s come back (from colic),” Taggart told SENTrack’s Saturday Trackside.
“I’d be going straight to the paddock with her now.
“I don’t want to be the negative nelly in the room, but some horses don’t come back from an illness like colic.
“Is that the end of her?
“Is she gonna come back in the Autumn or even next Spring?
“Once they get really sick, it’s very hard for them to come back.”
Cam Luke echoed that sentiment, stating that he would be very surprised if Treasurethe Moment was run in two weeks’ time, in the Cox Plate.
“I don’t think she has (come back) either,” Luke said.
“I’d be very surprised if she went to a Cox Plate off the back of that.
“There is no doubt that the Treasurethe Moment we saw at Moonee Valley and at Caulfield isn’t the Treassurethe Moment that we did see when she went bang resuming.
“I’m not 100% certain she will go to a Cox Plate now.”
Treasurethe Moment is currently $9 to win the Cox Plate (on Sportsbet).
But the question remains – will she be run in that Group 1?
