How Ka Ying Rising almost missed The Everest

Typhoon Ragasa has sent Hong Kong into lockdown.

Shocking news is coming out of Hong Kong right now as it has been sent into lockdown due to Typhoon Ragasa approaching the coast.

The typhoon is set to have winds reaching 220 kilometres per hour and had it hit Hong Kong 36 hours earlier, Ka Ying Rising would not be making the trip down to Australia for the $20 million Everest on October 18.

The world class sprinter’s trainer, David Hayes, is currently in Hong Kong and has revealed that the whole city has been shut down.

“It’s a pretty spectacular storm coming through at the moment,” Hayes told SENTrack and RSN’s Giddy Up.

“We’re just watching it unfold, I wouldn’t like to be near the coast at the moment.

“The horses are just locked in their boxes, like we’re locked in our houses.

“The whole city has just shut down.

“The horses cope very well, the stables are very secure and very safe.

“Hopefully tomorrow afternoon the Typhoon will pass.”

Despite Typhoon Ragasa being in Hong Kong’s vicinity, Hayes revealed that Ka Ying Rising has safely touched down in Sydney.

However, if the typhoon hit 36 hours earlier than all flights would’ve been cancelled and the five-year-old wouldn’t have travelled to Australia for his quarantine.

“He is (enjoying the Canterbury stable), he’s arrived there,” Hayes said.

“He beat the typhoon by 36 hours, which means he’s had no hold ups.

“It probably would’ve been game over (if the Typhoon hit earlier). Because he wouldn’t have been able to do the quarantine and it’s a pretty tight timeline.

“But now that he’s there he’s able to come out of quarantine and trial when we want to trial him.”

Hayes admitted that Ka Ying Rising is actually travelling along very well while in quarantine at Canterbury.

“If he’s got a little fault, it’s going through the tunnel (at Hong Kong) he gets right on his toes and jogs,” Hayes revealed.

“In quarantine with no other horses around, he doesn’t get as competitive and he’s much more relaxed.

“It’s just lovely to see, as you always want to see your horses nice and relaxed.”

Ka Ying Rising will have his one and only Australian race in The Everest on October 18.
