"There were plenty suggesting that he couldn’t win, but he's done it."
Ka Ying Rising has won The Everest in extraordinary fashion, proving all his doubters wrong.
Throughout the leadup to the world’s richest race on turf, the now nine-time Group 1 winner was constantly questioned about whether he would be able to perform in Australia.
This was the David Hayes trained gelding’s only race in Australia, flying down under from Hong Kong, and all the pressure was put on him.
But now there is officially no debate.
Ka Ying Rising is the world’s best sprinter.
The superstar absolutely toyed with Australia’s best and made it look easy.
When looking at the other placings, the three-year-old filly Tempted managed to finish second, and the Ciaron Maher trained Jimmysstar finished third.
Straight after the race finished, race caller Matt Hill could only marvel at Ka Ying Rising's performance.
“Ka Ying Rising, the world’s best sprinter on show in Sydney!” Hill exclaimed.
“The time is well outside the record at 1.08.13.
"Overpass didn’t push Mazu too hard and this allowed Ka Ying Rising to just travel and travel until Zac (Purton) finally pushed the button, running home in 33.62.
“They are going off in Hong Kong, there were plenty suggesting that he couldn’t win, but he's done it.
“Congratulations to David Hayes and Zac Purton, the pressure has been on them immensely for the last 10 days.
“The barrier trial that was scrutinised, the mischief makers suggesting last Sunday that all was not well in the camp.
“Well there’s the proof in the pudding, a big win in the Everest.”
And on SEN Track, David Taggart and Cam Luke noted how well the Hong Kong superstar performed under the pressure.
While Josh Jenkins was impressed with how Tempted ran having managed to finish second despite her age.
Taggart: “Geez, he’s (Ka Ying Rising) a good traveller.”
Jenkins: “Tempted (was) sensational.
“She was a little bit unlucky.
Taggart: “Yeah, she was good my little girl, the three-year-old filly.
Jenkins: “He (Ka Ying Rising) didn’t explode did he…
Luke: “Nah, he did.
Jenkins: “He worked hard to the line...
Taggart: “Yeah, but he came off a hot pace right.
Jenkins: “Overpass was good, stuck on. But you watch Tempted, she was a little bit unlucky, I don’t know if she beats him but she goes a lot closer with a bit better run through.
“Joliestar looked like she was there to present. Jimmysstar was very good.
Taggart: “What about the knockers of Ka Ying Rising. He is a superstar.
Luke: “The knockers came off a disappointing trial run and then of course the fake rumours last week.”
