The Taggart race paid homage to David Taggart and his late father Les.
The inaugural running of The Taggart has just taken place at Caulfield and it was an emotional tribute to David Taggart and his family.
The Taggart race paid homage to former jockey and SENTrack star David Taggart and his late father Les who was heavily involved in the Melbourne Racing Club.
The field for the race was incredible and Taggs tipped See You In Heaven as an omen, paying tribute to his late father.
“The Taggster doesn’t like omen bets but hopefully See You In Heaven can get the money for dad,” Taggs said.
Miraval Rose ended up taking out the brand new race, while Stretan Angel and Extratwo finished in second and third, respectively.
Speaking on the race itself Taggs admitted it was an honour and tribute to his father.
“It’s an honour of the old man,” Taggart told SENTrack.
“His legacy, what he did, he was 40, 50 years as a member of MRC.
“40 years serving the drinks to all the winning owners.”
Taggs revealed that his father was also an amazing human who always put smiles on the face of everyone he knew.
“He always put a smile on everyone’s face - they always came in with a smile and they always left with a smile, thanks to the old man,” Taggs revealed.
“He was always giving the owners exactly what they wanted.”
The race came at perfect timing for Taggart and his family, and he had nothing but praise for MRC Chairman John Kanga and CEO of Sports Entertainment Network Craig Hutchison for creating a race in honour of his father and himself.
“He passed away Wednesday of this week, so it has been three years now,” revealed Taggart.
“Thanks to Johnny Kanga and Craig Hutchison to put a race in our honour, it’s just so humbling.
“Being a Caulfield boy, I’ve grown up here, so it means a lot.”
