“Darcy Gardiner and Josh Dunkley are very close there,” Shea told SENTrack and RSN’s Giddy Up.

“Dunkley loves his racing as well, I think he’s got a few horses.

“Darcy Gardiner definitely holds the cup there.”

In fact, the 2025 premiership defender even goes to the Queensland races most Wednesdays on the Lions mid-week day off.

“Myself and Darcy we like to get up there on a Wednesday up to Doomben and Eagle Farm,” revealed Shea.

“It matches up perfectly to our day off.

“That’s probably where you’ll find us on a Wednesday afternoon.”

Shea also revealed that Irishman Conor McKenna is a massive racing fan who even wants to be a trainer in the future.

“Conor McKenna, he wants to be a horse trainer, rider, jockey, all of the above,” Shea said.

“Conor’s a racing man as well.

“The four of us, we like to share our tips around and see what we can muster up.”

When asked about who gives the worst tips, Shea admitted that it is actually assistant coach Cameron Bruce who gives the tips which you shouldn’t follow.

“It’s one of our coaches Cameron Bruce, he loves it,” joked Shea.

“Some of his tips, they either win at $1.50, and he thinks it’s the greatest thing ever or his long shots get nowhere near it.”
