The undefeated mare who is the "best bet of the day"

She races in the Group 1 Epsom at Randwick.

An undefeated horse is making her Group 1 debut on Saturday in The Epsom Handicap (1600m) and it is shaping up as an “outstanding” bet according to Dean Watling and Ben Calluzi.

Autumn Glow is six wins from six starts and is now two races deep into her season.

The Chris Waller trained bay won her first-up race at 1100m on a heavy track by 0.5 lengths and won her second-up race at 1300m on a soft track by 2.3 lengths.

The four-year-old will be third-up heading into the Epsom and she is currently the favourite to take out the Group 1.

Watling absolutely loves Autumn Glow’s barrier and believes she is at wider odds than the mare should be.

“I think she’s out to a backable price now,” he told SENTrack and RSN’s Giddy Up.

“I like the gate (14) – if you look back through history Ceolwulf won it from 15 last year, K-Mac (Kerrin McEvoy) won it aboard Probabeel from 15 and then outside of that it’s glittered with horses out wide.

“Why’s that?

“Generally, it’s because of the run to the turn and the high pressure nature of the Epsom.

“So, I think she’s an outstanding bet this race at $2+.

Calluzi echoed that statement, even declaring that the four-year-old bay is the best bet of the day at Randwick.

“She’s the best bet of the day in Sydney, I would’ve thought,” Caluzzi agreed.

“Autumn Glow, she’s unbeaten.

“I think she can use up a bit of petrol early and still win this race.”

Despite the confidence around the unbeaten mare, Watling sees only one horse in her way. And who is that?

Last year’s Epsom winner – Ceolwulf.

“The one I’m worried about is Ceolwulf, he’s under the radar in this race,” Watling said.

“His two best wins have come at 1600m at Randwick in the King Charles last year and he obviously won the Epsom.

“I think he’s underrated in the race, if you don’t want to take the shorts about Autumn Glow, you can back Ceolwulf each-way.

“He’ll be the one launching, maybe coming off Autumn Glow’s back.

“Be wary of Ceolwulf!”

Autumn Glow is currently the $2 favourite for the Epsom (on Sportsbet) while Ceolwulf is at $10.

Odds correct at 4pm on October 3.
