Zavitsanos makes his Major Eureka decision

Team Zav principal Danny Zavitsanos has selected the Emma Stewart-trained Major Delight to fill the camp’s slot for the 2024 TAB Eureka.

The four-year-old pacer has been in fine fettle, winning her last four starts including three of those at Menangle, the scene of the world's richest harness race.

Zavitsanos picks the in-form mare over his own Group 1-winning pacers.

"I would have loved to have used one of my horses, but I gave Petracca every chance and he raced last week in Sydney. He has just pulled up a bit lame, so we need to get him checked. He hasn't come up," Zavitsanos said.

"I thought Oliver Dan might have been a smokey. I knew there was a bit of interest around that mare (Major Delight).

"I wanted to go in with a horse that was in-form, and she was in good form."

Zavitsanos has had to work quickly to secure the mare out of Lady Euthenia.

"I spoke to Peter Lewis, the owner of the mare, and we racked up a deal. I signed the contract to say she was locked in," he said.

Reinswoman Ashleigh Delosa, who has combined with Major Delight to win her last three starts, is expected to drive the horse in the TAB Eureka on September 7.

"I'm hoping she will drive. It will be hard to take her off because the horse has been flying for her," Zavitsanos told thetrots.com.au.

"In my view, she will be retaining (the drive). But that is a story on its own, her getting a drive in a race like the Eureka."

Major Delight is the second Emma Stewart-trained horse selected for the TAB Eureka behind The Lost Storm.
