The Stan Lake Memorial has long been a part of the Warrnambool Cup night fixture, while we'll also see the inaugural running of the Jack Daffy Memorial.

President Robert Gore said the it was important that the Warrnambool GRC to be recognized as a good community club.

"Stan was the President and is a legend of our club, with the race being a consolation race for the Warrnambool Cup," Gore said.

"It's great that a couple of local dogs are in the race – Ice Bath Forth (Mathew Wright) and Grand Tourer (Stephen Bruce) – who are two very good young dogs on the rise.

"Stan was a popular man, and the Stan Lake Memorial means something special to a lot of people."

Gore said the club jumped at the opportunity to honour Jack Daffy following his sad passing in recent months.

"Jack is the father of bookmaker Gerard Daffy, and spent 13 years as President of our club on the old track," Gore said.

"Up until the last 12 months, Jack never missed an AGM or anything to do with our club. He was very well known in the community, being the former Mayor and a councillor. He was also heavily tied up in charity work.

"As soon as he passed we had discussions with the Daffy family about naming a race in his honour, and we've invited members of the Warrnambool Council to be part of the official presentation on Wednesday night, with the Mayor, a couple of councillors and the CEO all attending."

"We like to acknowledge all our members in some way, but Stan and Jack are standouts in terms of their contribution."

The Jack Daffy Memorial is Race 6 on the card, to run at 7.48pm, with the Stan Lake Memorial Race 8 at 8.28pm. The Warrnambool Cup is Race 10 at 9.14pm.
