Best bets & Group 1 analysis from Gator.
David Gately has provided his best bets for Caulfield on Caulfield Cup Day and Randwick on Everest Day this Saturday.
See Gator's Game Plan below:
BET OF THE DAY (Melbourne)
CAULFIELD - Race 9 No.15 - HALF YOURS - So strong winning here then really, the perfect Caulfield Cup trial in G1 Turnbull Stks taking ground off superstar Via Sistina and running faster last 200m than Sir Delius, and doing it with 56kg. Plummets in weights here. The one to beat!
BET OF THE DAY (Sydney)
RANDWICK - Race 6 No.15 - GENEROSITY - Hopelessly held-up fresh (had plenty to give!) then very competitive with Everest horses in The Shorts won in fast time. Back notch here out to 1200m. Suited.

Group 1 analysis
Race 7 - G1 Thousand Guineas - 3YOF - 1600m
1 - APOCALYPTIC - Strong return win then wide/ all honours her 2nd-up. Went to 1600m in G1 Flight Stks and quite dominant again off modest tempo. First go Caulfield/ Melb way (still have Aeliana nightmares anyone ??)
3 - OLE DANCER - Mile back and wide MV before flashing late then shuffled back Sandown peeled out and only needed one more stride to win there at 1400m. Have to think she will eat 1600m.
4 - GETTA GOOD FEELING - Badly held-up and tempo no help yet burst through to win Manifold Stks first go 1600m. Very much on the upward spiral.
12 - MATING CALL - Back/ Wide and ran very well Sandown behind Ole Dancer and Co. then just missed Getta Good Feeling in that Manifold Stks… That was just start three. Still learning!
10 - KARINSKA - She was good chasing Apocalyptic in the Flight Stks given the crawling tempo there.. Must have a case if hot fave does.
Race 9 - G1 CAULFIELD CUP - 2400m
15 - HALF YOURS - So strong winning here then really, the perfect Caulfield Cup trial in G1 Turnbull Stks taking ground off superstar Via Sistina and running faster last 200m than Sir Delius, and doing it with 56kg. Plummets in weights here. The one to beat !
4 - MEYDAAN - First Oz start. Similar form-lines to West Wind Blows (similar talented according to stable) who was a fabulous narrow 2nd in this race a few years back. Come off solid 3rd Sept Stks (daylight 4th) and winner there then 4th in G1 and had Jan Bruegel form. Improving son of Frankel who will race handy.
10 - DEAKIN - Loved the way he held his ground in that G1 Turnbull Stks and crossed the line with hot fave Half Yours (and, at $18 is obvs a much bigger price). He is desperate for 2400m. Half Yours has him at the weights but, weights are not everything! The value?
3 - MIDDLE EARTH - May be the one who jumps out of the ground here. Sneaky good run in Turnbull after blowing the start and was already looking for 2400m to my eye anyway. Target race for elite stable. Goes in!
1 - VAUBAN - Ran very well in G1 Metrop with limited luck with his big weight. Same ‘’problem’’ here though, he still has 58.5kg to contend with against these up-and-comers.
17 - VALIANT KING - Some win Flemington off that fearsome speed with blinkers on whilst jumping very sharply in trip.
11 - GOLDEN SNAP - First Oz start. May be more Melb Cup hope but talented Japanese Mare.. Wary.
5 - ABSURDE - Not meeting any younger but still world-class and in the mix for sure.
Race 7 - G1 TAB EVEREST - WFA - 1200m
1 - KA YING RISING - First Oz start. Brilliant HK sprinter who runs amazing times under seemingly minimal effort. The trial? Well, that was his first trial defeat since March 2024 and if you believe rider Zac Purton (‘if he runs to that trial he has his work cut out for him’) then he is beatable. His trial at home prior tp fresh win was a 12L untouched win. Suspect the bottom line is this: If they all run to their best, he wins !!
12 - TEMPTED - Star 3yo filly who was exceptional winning fresh then ran very well in track record Golden Rose at 1400m. Back to 1200m looks key. Can measure up here.
9 - JOLIESTAR - Back and wide and really given no hope fresh yet she blew tham away anyway running sizzling time, thrashing Briasa who then won G2 well. Won G1 Newmarket Hcp 2nd-up in Autumn.
4 - JIMMYSSTAR - Ran on well fresh but 1000m isn’t his go. Strong home latest chasing Briasa they gapped rest and yep, ran time. Will be peaking for this from this stable (won it last year) and key.. Can he settle closer from the gate or, does he need 1400m at this level ??
2 - BRIASA - Strong win latest chasing that hot speed. Proper G1 horse and can settle anywhere in the run. He will run well.
10 - LADY SHENANDOAH - Moral beaten fresh then back/ wide around MV didnt pan out. If still fresh enough for a hit 1200m she is in the game also.
Race 9 - G1 King Charles Stks - WFA - 1600m
10 - FANGIRL - Star mare and great chase/ win latest nailing Lindermann (won very well last week) and they ran exceptional time.
4 - LAKE FOREST - Back/ Held-up and home hard latest in G1 City Of York won by very good one in Never So Brave. One go mile was strong closing 4th to Docklands (who we know) in G1 Queen Anne. Won Golden Eagle (hottest form race on the planet) last Spring his one go in Oz.
11 - PRIDE OF JENNI - Great return win holding Treasurethe Moment comfortably (gaps behind). Flies 2nd-up as a rule. If 100% you know she takes serious catching.
1 - MR BRIGHTSIDE - Just never runs poorly! Handles any track/ any tempo/ all conditions. Easy lead latest but beat all our stars of the turf.
3 - CEOLWULF - Wasn’t far off Fangirl then ran well in Epsom with weight.
