BET OF THE DAY (Melbourne)

FLEMINGTON - Race 3 No.5 - CABALLUS - Gelded into Ortensia and won well despite bleeding attack. Was a trial star into Sydney Stks but drew bad and they went back some 15L off the lead, he flew home! Won 2 of 3 second-up, the miss was in a G1.

BET OF THE DAY (Sydney)

RANDWICK - Race 7 No.2 - JIMMYSSTAR - Ran enormous in Everest when wide/ working mid race and finally draws a gate here. The 1300m suits better if anything too. Keen runs well.

Group 1 analysis

Flemington: Race 6 - G1 Coolmore Stud Stks - 3YO - SW - 1200m

1 - BEIWACHT - Just a brilliant display of sustained speed, as a relatively young athlete to break the track record and thrash Tempted (who then beat all-bar worlds best horse in an Everest) is well, just that, brilliant !!

3 - TENTYRIS - Good return (peaked late) then excellent win Caulfield steaming late running blistering closing splits. Looks a danger !

10 - BEADMAN - Pressured fresh and very good then desperately unlucky latest. Looked fabulous in jumpout here last week easily beating Beiwacht…

5 - SKYHOOK - No match at all for Beiwacht in track record Golden Rose but that was 1400m. He was very good behind he and Tempted at 1200m prior with limited luck vital stage.

3 - SKYGLIDER - Gut feel this may have come up too quick but loved the fresh win and fight when challenged and beat Grand Eagle clearly and that does tie in the form here.

12 - MY GLADIOLA - Beat Tentyris home here latest and kept fresh, to 1200m… She is in the game. Gate 1 ???

Flemington: Race 7 - G1 VRC DERBY - 3YO - SW - 2500m

6 - PROVIDENCE - Liked him at a price in Sydney but did have excuses. Went to 2040m in Vase an absolutely zoomed home running faster last 200m that quality older horses, over shorter trips! Add to that, I doubt he relished tight MV track. Yes Flemington and 2500m. Observer mighty hard to beat but $6 looks too juicy.

1 - OBSERVER - No luck in G1 Caulfield Guineas when may have tested the smart Autumn Boy. Controlled race as expected MV but raced away 5L in blink of an eye then throttled down! Very, very hard to beat here.

5 - OPTIONS - Loved the win here Vs moderate tempo then no luck in the Vase last week. Gets back to big Flem track and up in trip and has a case.

9 - O’SHEAMUS - Like the way he found the wire in the Vase and he too raced tight key stage there. Have to think 2500m will be a big plus.

4 - MIEWA - Good without luck key stage Caulfield in that blanket finish race… That form does tie in through Options previously though, Vs the Vase form.

Flemington: Race 8 - G1 Empire Rose - F&M - WFA - 1600m

10 - IDLE FLYER - Good mare this. WFA a new challenge but she was off the map latest and wide, yet far too good running faster time than Fangirl/ Pride Of Jenni (albeit with 54kg). On her Bauhinia form, well, that girl was only 2L or so off Stefi Magnetica last week.. Suspect she measures up here… The value, $7?

2 - FANGIRL - Great win nailing Lindermann (form !!) in fast time before solid effort latest but I was expecting more. The reality is, she is lengths better than mares class and is so well weighted here at WFA. Cannot sack !

1 - PRIDE OF JENNI - Beat Treasurethe Moment (form !!) then faded in Sydney but doubt was ridden to her strengths there. She crossed the line with Fangirl. Would love one of those old-school mad leaders tracks on Derby Day but out she gets that. Still, hard to catch here Vs mares!

4 - DAMASK ROSE - I think she is flying but just cant find any luck in her races! Just never clear in Toorak latest and back/ wide/ terrific in fast Rupert Clarke. On her Evaporate form, she is in this at odds also.

5 - BENAGIL - Good mare and nice return Vs boys. Like her Treasurethe Moment form too…

9 - SPLASH BACK - Has a booming finish on her and back out to 1600m, bigger track… She’s not out of this.
