"We might be rolling the dice.”
Is Globe heading to the Cox Plate after his Group 1 Might and Power Stakes victory?
The seven-year-old gelding won the Might and Power Stakes in a field of four, beating Treasurethe Moment, Buckaroo and Hezashoka.
Many racing pundits exclaimed that Globe could head to the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) off the back of that victory, and the Group 1 winner’s co-trainer, Michael Kent Jnr, believes that is a real possibility.
“Having been beaten in three handicaps leading (into the Might and Power), we didn’t go ahead and pay up (for the Cox Plate),” Kent Jnr told RSN’s Correct Weight.
“But certainly, the way the Cox Plate is shaping up, I think the Valley already suits him and his racing style.
“It’s a $200,000 pay up, but if you assume he runs top eight, we get $100,000 back minimum.
“He earned some money yesterday and there’s a lot of owners in the group that would like to pay up.
“I think it’s more likely than not likely at this stage. We’ll just watch the horse and see how he is.”
But how would Globe perform in the Cox Plate?
Mick Price’s co-trainer is confident in his gelding’s ability, especially if it is raining.
“If we get any rain on Cox Plate day, it will be a big plus too,” Kent Jnr said.
“How can you not (send him to the Cox Plate)? The race has changed complexion a lot, there might be eight runners maybe.
“Stranger things have happened. Pardon the pun, but we might be rolling the dice.”
Globe is currently $18 (on Sportsbet) to win the Cox Plate.
