Three jumps races have been moved to Sandown's Wednesday meeting after today's Mornington meeting was abandoned.

The feature meeting at Mornington was called off very early this morning after persistent rain on the track fell overnight.

The track was rated a heavy 9 late yesterday but after a further 14mm fell overnight, stewards had no other alternative but to abandon the meeting.

The $20,000 Robert Fitzgerald Memorial Maiden Hurdle (3300m), the $100,000 Jack Dow Memorial Hurdle and the $100,000 Great Southern Steeplechase (3300m), have been re-programmed to run on Wednesday's Sportingbet Park card.

Wednesday's meeting will now hold 11 races with an earlier start time to be advised with acceptances tomorrow morning.

Champion jumper Black And Bent, who was set to return to the track in today's Jack Dow Memorial Hurdle, will have to wait until at least Wednesday to chase his 10th consecutive win over hurdles, what would be a new Australian record.

<![CDATA[Cup favourite ready for work]]>

Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune will begin his Spring Carnival preparations tomorrow.

After surgery and eight weeks of rest and treadmill walking sessions, his trainer Darren Weir is ready to step up the training.

Puissance De Lune's racing career shot to prominence last year when he won the Bendigo Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in devastating fashion in the Spring.

He then dead-heated in the Blamey Stakes in the Autumn before bone chips were discovered.

It is still unclear what program the stayer will have in the Spring Carnival, but the main goal will be the Melbourne Cup.

<![CDATA[Stevens claims third Preakness]]>

50-year-old Gary Stevens rode Oxbow to victory in the Preakness Stakes in the United States.

The 50-year-old jockey came out of retirement at the start of the year after he retired back in 2005 because of a knee injury.

After today's victory, Stevens has now won three Preakness Stakes.

His first was in 1988.

The win by Oxbow ended the chance of Kentucky Derby winner Orb's chances of winning the famous triple crown.

<![CDATA[Lane Notches Metro Treble]]>

Former boom apprentice Damien Lane has notched his first Melbourne metropolitan treble with a fantastic display of riding at Flemington on Saturday afternoon.

Lane, born and raised in WA, claimed the first two races on the program with wins aboard Menage A Charge and Desert Wizard, before notching his treble in the Listed Straight Six aboard Mister Milton.

"He (Mister Milton) hasn't won for a while, but he's been knocking on the door and has run some good races, it was good to get a win on him," Lane said.

"I got a beautiful track through the race and even though I was exposed a touch earlier than I would have liked, he still got the job done.

"It's a big day for me riding three winners in town including a Listed win, so I'm wrapt."

Lane currently sits 13th on the Metropolitan Premiership with 22 wins and a further 25 placings from 144 rides and at 5th on the overall premiership.

<![CDATA[Beaten Up Provides Waller With Quinella]]>

Chris Waller has recorded his seventh G1 victory of the season after Beaten Up defeated stable-mate Forteller in the G1 Doomben Cup (2000m).

It is the second time Sydney's premier trainer has won the event, saddling Metal Bender to win the 2010 edition.

Waller was full of praise for the ride of winning jockey Leith Innes, who brought Beaten Up with a well-timed finish to defeat Foreteller by three-quarters-of-a-length with Secret Admirer a half head way third. "Leith got him to switch off and that's what wins Group One races," He said.

The former UK galloper has taken time to find his feet, but Waller has no hesitation throwing him in the deep end again. "It will all depend on how his lead up form is but the Cox Plate is there if he shows he's going well enough," He said.

"We always knew he had the potential to be a Group One winner and it's been a matter of teaching him to relax and gain some confidence.

"He had it all in front of him as a young horse but he lost his way and it's taken him until now to rediscover that early form.

"I'd describe him as being like an unruly teenager. He wants to do the right thing but he's got a few quirks."

<![CDATA[Solz Back In Winner’s Stall]]>

A stellar Michael Rodd ride has proven the catalyst for Solzhenitsyn returning to the winner's list in the Lord Mayors Cup (1600m).

Shortly after jumping, Solzhenitsyn was sent forward by Rodd, pushing on out wide to take up the running as the field quickly sorted out their positions.

At the 600m, Michael Cahill on Transporter, the second favourite, took off and applied the pressure to Solzhenitsyn and the two quickly cleared out from the rest of the field to fight out the finish.

On the line it was class prevailing with Solzhenitsyn denying Transporter by a short neck with Epic one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Rodd said trainer Robert Heathcote left the riding instructions up to him. "We decided to let him amble along early so we could see where Transporter was going. When he led we got across and were able to go to the front with him behind us," He said.

"Robbie told me Solzhenitsyn was a strong horse and that was the way it worked out. He was really tough at the finish."

Heathcote said Solzhenitsyn would press onto the G1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 8 at Eagle Farm.

<![CDATA[Sprinter Spot On]]>

Jason Warren is confident Bel Sprinter will not be beaten on score of fitness when he lines up in Sunday's Krisflyer Sprint at Kranji.

The Mornington based trainer, who is enjoying his first overseas foray, says his G1 winning five-year old is spot on. "I'm very happy with the way he travelled over and how he has settled in" Warren told Shane Anderson on Racing Ahead this morning.

"He had a couple of days to settle in by the time I arrived and he looks every bit as good as he did when he left Australia. "The five weeks between the TJ and Sunday is perfect for him as he races best on the fresh side."

Bel Sprinter came up with barrier 10 in the eleven horse field, and Warren expects that to prove an advantage, given the horse's habit of missing the start. "The draw is perfect for him and will allow him to settle back and come to the outside. The race should unfold pretty well for him," He said.

Win, lose or draw on Sunday, Warren hasn't ruled out further international travel with the son of Bel Esprit. "He'll come home after Sunday and we'll get him ready for the Melbourne spring, give him two or three runs here and then head to Hong Kong in December for the international meeting." He said.

Bel Sprinter will be piloted by Hugh Bowman on Sunday in the Krisflyer and has opened the $4.20 favourite.

<![CDATA[Miata Wins Through To Final]]>

Champion greyhound Miata made a winning return at Sandown Park last night and has won her way in the RSN Sandown Cup Final next week.

Other heat winners to make it through included Destini Fireball, Irma Bale and Proven Impala, setting up an enthralling final next Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Clone Your Own became the first Kiwi to claim a feature race at Sandown Park since Kwik Metal won the 1974 Melbourne Cup when it took out the $145,000 G2 Harrison Dawson, and Xylia Allen, for master trainer Graeme Bate, turned in one of the most devastating finishing bursts seen over the sprint trip to claim the G1 Sapphire Crown.

The box draw for the RSN Sandown Cup will be conducted live on RSN Breakfast with Chrisso and Mick from 7.35am Monday.

<![CDATA[Broadway At Her Best For The Task]]>

Broadways Best returns to Tabcorp Park tomorrow night for the Cinderella Stakes.

This week will make it two years to the day that Broadways Best humbled her rivals in the Harness Breeders (VIC) Cinderella Stakes and she will be hoping to make it a double in 2013.

The top-line mare will have to contend with the extreme draw of 15, but with a trial win under her belt she is likely to start close to - if not - the public elect.

Her last campaign with Emma Stewart was a case of near misses - just being tipped out in the Angelique Club and Ladyship Cup's.

The preparation ended with an eighth in the Ladyship Mile at Menangle and with retirement on the cards she headed back to Victoria.

But, Shannon McLean and his fellow owners decided she was worth one more roll of the dice before breeding season so tomorrow night the seven-year-old mare is back with her original trainer.

"It's exciting to have her back; it will probably be her last season in training so the next few runs will sort of be like a swansong for her so hopefully she can get back to her glory days," McLean said.

"We felt she just might have needed a change of environment and she went super with Emma (Stewart) and Clayton (Tonkin) but we got her back home and we were tossing up whether to retire her or not.

"We decided we might as well have a crack for a couple of months before the breeding season so it's just easier to keep her at home and ticking over."

Ticking over she has been, her trial ten days ago may not look altogether impressive on paper (2:01.2 mile rate and a half-neck margin) but the manner in which she won was the most important factor for McLean.

"She trialled off 50 metres and she was against another good horse in Repelem who I didn't expect to beat that night. But, we picked her up pretty easily and ran good time so everything is looking pretty positive heading into Friday night," he said.

"She has a good record first up and seems to go well fresh so the only query is probably the barrier draw.

"Our main danger in Bellas Delight has drawn next to us though so we will probably have to do a bit of work but we are both in the same boat now."

Broadways Best has been marked the $3 second favourite behind Bellas Delight ($2.80) by HRV form expert Michael Polster.

Louvre ($6), who is coming off two eye-catching runs, and Steam Washed ($10), who has the speed to be in the early fight, are considered the winning chances off the front row.

<![CDATA[Warren positive about wide gate]]>

Trainer Jason Warren remains confident with his horse Bel Sprinter going into Sunday's Group One KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore despite drawing a wide barrier.

Bel Sprinter drew gate ten of eleven in the 1200 metre feature.

Hugh Bowman has travelled to Singapore to take the ride after finishing third on board him behind Black Caviar in the TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick last month.

Warran told Racing Victoria the wide barrier could be an advantage.

"I'm more than happy (for him) to be out there," Warren told Racing Victoria.

"He'll be loaded late which is a plus and they tell me there's plenty of speed so he'll be likely to settle back in any case.

"Hopefully he can run over the top of them like he did in the Galaxy."

<![CDATA[Three more winners for Boss]]>

Glen Boss has further strengthened his claims on the Melbourne jockeys premiership with another three winners at Sandown today.

It now leaves Boss 21 wins clear of Craig Williams who is currently riding in Japan and 23 wins ahead of Luke Nolen.

Boss has never won a Melbourne jockeys premiership.

Boss is due to have knee surgery in July a month before the end of the season.

The winners for Boss today were Pyrrolic, Girls on Film and Briefed.

<![CDATA[A new Moloney in the headlines]]>

Patrick Moloney's rise as a young rider has continued after scoring his first Melbourne winner in his first ride.

Moloney has already scored 27 winners on the country circuit.

It also continues the incredible success of the Moloney family in racing.

Patrick is the grandson of Jim Moloney who was the trainer of champion sprinter Vain.

Patrick's great grandfather was Jeremiah Moloney who trainer over a century ago, his father Gerard Moloney is also a successful trainer, as his uncle John.

But Patrick is the first of the family to be a jockey.

<![CDATA[VCAT stands firm on Karakatsanis bans]]> Con and Tony Karakatsanis have lost their appeals to VCAT over the treatment of Howmuchdoyouloveme on Derby Day last year at Flemington.

It means Con Karakatsanis must serve his nine-month penalty, while his father Tony must serve a two-year sanction.

The pair was found guilty last November for conspiring to drench their horse before the Yellowglen Stakes on Derby Day.

It is unclear at this whether Con Karakatsanis will be able to keep his horses he currently trains or whether they will be lost to other trainers.

<![CDATA[Waller weighs up 10,000 options]]>

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed Rangirangdoo will line up in Saturday week's Group One Doomben 10,000.

Rangirangdoo finished third in a trial this morning over 900 metres at Rosehill behind Manawanui.

He hasn't raced since finishing fifth in the All Aged Stakes.

While Rangirangdoo is a definite runner in the Doomben 10,000, stablemate Arinosa is no certainty.

She won her trial at Rosehill very easily but Waller is still unsure whether to contest the Group One event or race her in the fillies and mares race on the same day.

Her main goal for the Brisbane Winter Carnival is either the Stradbroke Handicap or the Tatt's Tiara.

Ron Leemon has made it clear Manawanui will run in the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday week providing the track is not wet.

Jockey Glyn Schofield rode Manawanui to victory in a trial at Rosehill this morning, finishing ahead of the Peter Snowden-trained Epaulette.

Manawanui is on the comeback trail after an extended break.

He finished fifth in his return race in the Hall Mark Stakes behind Rarefied.

Both trainer and jockey are adamant Manawanui has improved considerably since that race.

<![CDATA[Secret Admirer nears end]]>

Popular mare Secret Admirer might be having her last race on Saturday in the Doomben Cup.

Trainer Graeme Begg has conceded Saturday could be the end of a successful career which has seen Secret Admirer win almost $1.4 million in prizemoney and two Group One victories in both the Epsom Handicap at the Flight Stakes.

Secret Admirer galloped well in the wet conditions at Doomben this morning, but Begg is hoping for a firmer track on Saturday to be given any chance of victory.

Michael Rodd will ride her on Saturday for the first time.

She hasn't raced since finishing fifth behind Reliable Man in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Singleton described his own behavior over the More Joyous affair as inappropriate and regretful.

Singleton's penalty was $20,000 but was reduced $5,000 due to a good record, character and early plea.

<![CDATA[Star's Spring remains in doubt]]>

It is still unclear whether last year's Victoria Derby winner Fiveandhalfstar will be seen in this year's Spring Carnival.

His trainer Anthony Cummings confirmed on RSN the horse is recovering well from his injury in winning the BMW but it is still a slow process.

He's going through a controlled exercise recovery from the (strained ligament) injury that he picked up in The BMW (2400m) and that's coming along really well," Cummings told RSN.

"He goes to the paddock perhaps at the end of this week and then we'll just monitor him to see when he returns (to work).

"Our best expectation is that he'll be back in work at the end of June and our worst is that it might be three months after that."

Cummings believes FIveandahalfstar will need to be back in work by late June for him to be a chance to be racing in Melbourne's Spring.
