Snowden told RSN this morning he has high hopes for the winner of four of his seven starts.

“He’s always been a nice horse, he’s shown us a nice ability,” Snowden said.

While Snowden is confident in Mental’s ability, particularly after such an impressive win at his last start at Hawkesbury, Snowden is well aware this will be his biggest test yet.

“This is a much stronger race than what he met last start, but he won very dominantly,” Snowden said.

Snowden was reluctant to look past the Fred Best Classic with Mental, but he did concede starting him in he Stradbroke is definitely a strong chance, but he must run very well at Doomben tomorrow.

“He is in the Stradbroke, but he’s got to win and win well and keep winning to warrant a run at that,” Snowden told Racing Ahead.

<![CDATA[Doomben Cup is Foreteller's main Brisbane goal]]> Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller believes Foreteller can upstage Manighar in tomorrow’s Doomben Cup.

Waller has urged punters to forget his performance in the Hollindale Cup, after his chances were ruined by the wet track and a race that simply didn’t suit his horse.

With more suitable conditions expected tomorrow, Waller told RSN the biggest challenge will be finding a way to beat Manighar.

“Saturday will tell us a lot, but obviously he has to improve to beat a horse like Manighar,” Waller said.

But Waller was not offering up any excuses tomorrow because the Doomben Cup has been his planned race from a long time ago.

“He’s been set for the Hollindale last start and then the Doomben Cup on Saturday, so hopefully we have got him right,” Waller said.

<![CDATA[Frankel set to return at Newbury]]> Frankel will make his return to the races in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

After recovering from a minor leg injury, the Group One event will be the unbeaten colt’s first run of this campaign.

Frankel will only have a maximum of six rivals in the race over 1600 meters.

Among his rivals will be regular work companion Bullet Train, Strong Suit and Dubawi Gold from the Richard Hannon stable and the Aiden O’Brien pair Excelebration and Windsor Palace.

Frankel’s trainer Henry Cecil is confident his star galloper will be on top of his game on Saturday after impressive recent workouts at Newmarket.

<![CDATA[Heathcote delighted with Buffering's improvement]]> There is more good news for the Robert Heathcote-trained Buffering after the sprint star galloped at Doomben this morning with stable mate Woorim.

It was yet another promising sign Buffering was recovering well from last week’s stone bruise.

Buffering worked at about three quarter pace on the grass track and pleased his trained.

“He went nice, I was very happy with him,” Heathcote told RSN.

“He’s still not 100 per cent right, but he’s so close it’s not funny.”

The next plan is to take Buffering back to Doomben for an exhibition gallop between races ahead of next week’s Doomben 10,000, with Heathcote mindful Buffering has not raced in a month because of the injury setback.

“I want him to have a good hitout.

“I just think in front of the crowd would be better for him just to top him off for the race next week,” Heathcote said.

Heathcote is also very happy with the progress of Triple Honour ahead of Saturday’s Doomben Cup, despite coming up against horses of the caliber of Manighar and Sea Siren.

“He’s come to us with a new zest and new found enthusiasm for racing,” Heathcote said.

<![CDATA[Walker granted permission to ride Wealth Princess]]> Michael Walker is free to ride classy mare Wealth Princess at Doomben on Saturday in the Glenlogan Park Stakes.

Walker has been granted a stay of proceedings after he was suspended on a careless riding charge on Tuesday at Echuca.

Walker will be allowed to ride until his appeal is heard by the Victorian Racing Appeals Board next Tuesday.

Walker and Wealth Princess will be aiming to win Saturday’s race for the second time after the combination won the race two years ago.

The Darren Weir-trained mare arrived in Brisbane on Wednesday after winning the Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on May 2nd.

The target for Wealth Princess during Brisbane’s Winter Carnvial is the Group One Tattersall’s Tiara.

<![CDATA[Freedman enjoying the Sydney ride]]> Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman could not be happier with his start in Sydney with the new partnership with Graeme Rogerson.

Freedman told RSN he is really pleased with his decision to get back into the thick of the action in Sydney.

“I’m really enjoying the roll at the moment.

“I’m enjoying living here, really enjoying being back at the track.

“It’s something I haven’t done for many years,” he told Shane Anderson’s Racing Ahead.

Freedman has made it clear he and Rogerson will not take on a big team, preferring a stable of around 45 horses rather than 100, which Freedman has had before.

“To make an impact over a period of time in Sydney we need to offer the public something a little bit on the different side,” Freedman explained to RSN.

“It’s a more hands-on stable.

“We’re very aware of all our horses’ strengths and weaknesses and I think that can only benefit the owner,” Freedman said.

Lady Lynette is one of the stable’s horses that will be running at Scone on Saturday in the Dark Jewel Classic before a likely trip to Brisbane for the end of the Winter Carnival.

<![CDATA[Buffering's Carnival back on track]]> Fortunes have finally had a turn for the better for Roberth Heathcote with Buffering.

Heathcote was able to work at Doomben this morning for the first time since suffering a stone bruise late last week that forced him out of the BTC Cup.

Heathcote gave his star sprinter a canter on the grass in a positive step forward in his recovery.

Only 24 hours ago, Heathcote was contemplating scrapping the horse’s Winter campaign to concentrate on the Spring following the frustrating minor injury.

Heathcote now plans to have an exhibition gallop with stablemate Woorim between races at Doomben ahead of the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday week.

Woorim will now be ridden by Michael Rodd in the Doomben 10,000.

There were 22 first acceptors for the race, which included Albert The Fat, Black Piranha, Phelan Ready, Scenic Blast, Sea Siren, Sistine Angel, Temple of Boom and Torio’s Quest.

<![CDATA[Manighar's claims boosted after barrier draw]]> The Peter Moody-trained new weight-for-age star Manighar has drawn barrier one for Saturday’s Group One Doomben Cup.

Today’s barrier draw further strengthens Manighar’s bid to win his fourth big race this campaign after switching to the Moody stable from Luca Cumani.

Scenic Shot’s attempt at three successive Doomben Cups were also given a boost after drawing ideally in barrier four.

There was not the same luck given to New Zealand mare Shez Sinsational

The three-time Group One winner from across the Tasman drew wide in gate eleven.

Of the other notable runners, Lights of Heaven will come from barrier five, while German import Mawingo also fared well after drawing gate six.

<![CDATA[Conners has big plans for Invest]]> Clarry Conners has confirmed Invest will have her first run in Brisbane in Saturday’s Group Three Roses at Doomben.

After winning the Group One Australasian Oaks at Morphettville last month, Conners is planning for more Group One success later in the campaign in the Queensland Oaks early next month at Eagle Farm.

Connors has won the Queensland Oaks twice in the past with Allow in 2006 and Zagalia in 2003, but Connors believes Invest is better than both of those fillies.

Connors will take the winkers off Invest in The Roses on Saturday in the hope she will be more relaxed in Saturday’s race.

<![CDATA[Buffering's Winter Carnival now in doubt]]> Queensland trainer Robert Heathcote has conceded his star sprinter Buffering could miss the remainder of Brisbane’s Winter Carnival.

Buffering is still struggling to overcome a heel bruise that forced him to be scratched from last Saturday’s BTC Cup.

Heathcote was confident the injury would not prevent his horse from running in next weekend’s Doomben 10,000, however because the injury is still receiving medical treatment, those plans are now up in the air.

Heathcote will continue to monitor the bruise and continue with lengthy sessions in the salt water.

If all goes well, Buffering will have a gallop on Thursday and again on Saturday, but that is only if there is significant improvement in the injury.

The Stradbroke Handicap is a different issue for Buffering.

Heathcote is concerned about the weight of 57kgs and is now considering an early spell to prepare for the Spring.

Heathcote is hoping to have a better understanding of the situation within the next 24 hours.

Roman Arch was trained by Robbie Laing and South Australian trainer Mick Whittle during his long racing career.

<![CDATA[Another tendon injury for Black and Bent]]> Jumps star Black and Bent will not race again this year after suffering a tendon injury.

The six-year-old has injured the same leg that saw him miss twelve months of racing in 2010.

Black and Bent equaled Lots of Time’s Australian record of nine consecutive jumps victories over the Warrnambool Carnival when he won the Galleywood Hurdle two weeks ago.

Managing part-owner Mike Symons confirmed the injury on his twitter account.

"B&B (Black And Bent) has injured his tendon - near fore, same as last time - and will not race again this season. Hopefully he can bounce back in 2013," Symons tweeted.

Black and Bent was going to run at Mornington on Sunday before he was expected to make his mark in The Australian Steeplechase at Sandown in early June.

<![CDATA[Dunn has high hopes with Bonnie Mac]]> Jockey Dwayne Dunn believes Bonnie Mac can mix it with the best after her impressive win at Morphettville on Saturday in the listed Proud Miss Stakes.

Bonnie Mac’s trainer Mike Moroney has high hopes for the galloper who has now won five of her six starts.

Dunn told RSN this morning he was stunned with her ability.

“Michael Moroney had a really good push for her before the race.

“She is a top class filly and expect bigger and better things than this,” Dunn said.

Dunn believes the Brisbane Carnival is the obvious path following Saturday’s win at listed level.

“Obviously in Saturday’s race there were horses that have performed at Group One level and have come second to Black Caviar.

“For her to do what she did on Saturday and play with her rivals, she’ll probably head to Brisbane now on a bigger mission,” Dunn said.

Dunn could be in for a busy Brisbane Carnival after riding three winners at Morphettville.

Another of his winner Dance With Her is also likely to head to Brisbane after a brilliant win in the listed Centaurea Stakes.

“On top of the ground she can have a turn of foot and she can be adaptable, she just needs to get to her right distance and that’s when she is at her best,” Dunn explained.

After back-to-back listed wins following her Warrnambool Cup victory, Dunn has no doubt the in-form mare has more victories ahead of her.

“When you get a good mare that’s in form they seem to hold it and she destroyed them again on Saturday.”

Dunn will ride in Melbourne this weekend before heading to Brisbane for the remainder of its Brisbane Carnival.

Despite her ordeal, Payne has tweeted to her followers tonight that she is in good spirits.

“"Thanks everyone for your msg's. 4 stable fractured vertebrates and maybe a crack in my collarbone. Not as bad as it sounds!" Payne explained from her hospital bed.

<![CDATA[O'Shea concerned about handicapper]]> Saturday’s BTC Cup winner Sea Siren is no certainty to run in the Stradbroke Handicap according to her trainer John O’Shea.

While June’s Stradbroke was always the long term target for the horse, O’Shea is now concerned she will get too much weight from the handicapper.

Sea Siren upstaged her more fancied rivals to win the BTC Cup in her first run in nearly two months to give Jim Cassidy his first Group One victory in three years.

Meanwhile Robert Heathcote has declared Buffering is back on track, despite being forced to scratch the favourite of the BTC Cup on race morning.

Buffering will now head to the Doomben 10,000 on the 26th of May.

The four-year-old suffered a stone bruise following his final piece of work ahead of the BTC Cup last Friday.

<![CDATA[Moody to have two runners in Doomben Cup]]> Peter Moody has confirmed stablemates Manighar and Lights of Heaven will both clash in Saturday’s Doomben Cup.

Lights of Heaven is back in the good books at the Moody stable after an encouraging second in the Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast earlier this month.

Manighar has not raced since his run in the Queen Elizabeth in Sydney and has settled in well to his new surroundings at Eagle Farm over the last ten days.

While Moody is yet to confirm the jockeys for the two horses, it is understood Luke Nolen is likely to ride Manighar, with Damien Oliver set to ride Lights of Heaven.

<![CDATA[Hume causes upset in Chairman's at Doomben]]> Brisbane stayer Hume repaid the bottomless faith of trainer Brian Smith with a superb upset win in the $115,000 Chairman's Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

Smith pleaded with connections over the summer to give the eight-year-old one more campaign, and his determination handsomely paid off as Hume bounded down the outside late on to salute as a $40 shot, three quarters of a length clear of a revitalised Ironstein .

Warrior Within headed a wall of horses in third spot.

Hume hadn't won since claiming the Group 3 Tatts Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm almost three years ago, but Smith's decision to step his horse up to 10 furlongs in just his second run back proved a masterstroke.

<![CDATA[Cassidy breaks his Group One drought in BTC Cup]]> Jim Cassidy broke a three-year Group 1 drought on Saturday afternoon after riding Sea Siren to victory in the BTC Cup at Doomben.

Not since Vision And Power 's win in the 2009 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) had the 49-year-old hoop saluted in Group 1 company, but he took full advantage of Buffering 's late withdrawal to expunge his baron run.

Early-week favourite Buffering was scratched on race morning with a stone bruise and Cassidy capitalised with a gem of a ride on Sea Siren to upstage her older rivals in the weight-for-age feature.

<![CDATA[Black Caviar celebrates her 21st in style]]> The margin didn't matter to trainer Peter Moody or jockey Luke Nolen as Black Caviar cruised to her 21st consecutive victory in the Goodwood at Morphettville.

Under a calm and confident ride from Nolen, the champion mare was given an easy time with We're Gonna Rock getting to 1-1/4 lengths but safely held.

Earlier this week, Moody took a swipe at corporate bookmakers posting novelty bets including how much the mare would win by.

He repeated the exercise again on Saturday.

"No-one's ever given us any more for winning by big spaces," Moody said,

"Luke looked after her. He was kind and we're happy where we're at.

Nolen was just as pleased with the mare who jumped cleanly and led from the outset before ambling to the line.

"She was never out of second gear," Nolen said.

"I'm not a punter. I don't worry about margins.

"As long as she bloody wins I don't care."

Nolen said Black Caviar hadn't been at the top of her game when she looked slightly awkward winning the Robert Sangster Stakes two weeks ago.

"The other day she wasn't the same horse but today she was back to the machine she is," he said.
