Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - MAGNUM CLASS (5) comes through a solid Class 5 event where he was only beaten 2.2L with that form already being franked. The inside draw is a big tick and Chris Parnham remains in the saddle. Looks to have found his right race and he can get back to winning ways. MIA GUSTO (7) resumes today on the back of a solid trial win at Lark Hill recently. She's won 3/4 first-up and CJP sticking from the latest trial is a positive sign. Can make her presence felt. SKY DUKE (3) beat home Magnum Class first-up but does tend to dip in his performance second-up. Brad Parnham taking the ride is worth noting though and he's likely to be prominent from the outset. Can go one better without surprising. CAPITAL FLIGHT (1) usually peaks third-up and will appreciate the easier company. Can turn his form right around. SUNNY HONEY (2) comes back to midweek company today and has claims.
RACE 2 - BONDI BAY (1) got the job done as favourite at Pinjarra (S) just 6 days ago, running over the top from midfield to score by 1.1L. He looks to have plenty of upside and the slight rise in trip shouldn't hurt him. Can bring up back-to-back victories in what looks a suitable race. MASTERLY (3) went around in Saturday grade on debut, finishing 3L off the winner after some handy trials coming in. He'll find this easier than his latest effort and Chris Parnham sticking is a good sign. He looks the main danger. LYN'S STAR (8) was tested in Group company last campaign and has been solid since resuming this time in. Back to midweek company is a big tick and she should be ready to strike now third-up. Won't be far away. VENUS KING (6) looks suited to the 1400m on debut and any market moves are worth respecting. LINE OF THOUGHT (9) was good in similar grade last start and has claims.
RACE 3 - ON THE MARK (1) has been right around the mark throughout this campaign, finishing just 0.5L off the winner in Saturday grade last time out. This is much easier as he drops right back into Maiden grade. Wide draw is a little niggle, but he rates highly in this field and should be getting the job done. ALL VITAL (2) just missed first-up at Bunbury and was 3L off the winner as favourite most recently 13 days ago. This is a little tougher, but his best form stacks up well, with the inside draw and rise in trip looking to suit. Can put his best foot forward. WEST MASSIV (4) resumed over the 1680m trip and stuck on well from the back, beaten just 2.9L. The drop in trip is a little niggle, though he draws a better gate and a repeat effort will see him in the finish. HEZA GRUNT (6) has been solid at the trials and can make an impression on debut. BILL SELECTS (7) is better than she showed last time out and can bounce back.
RACE 4 - CHER (6) stuck on well from the front, just bumping into a smart one first-up at Pinjarra (S). She's a second-up winner in the past and Holly Watson knows the mare well. Still has plenty of upside and can go one better this time around. UUKHAI (3) disappointed as favourite at Northam last start when over racing throughout when settling well back in the field. Suspect they'll be much closer this time around and his prior form stacks up nicely in this field. Can get back to winning ways. NEW EXPRESSION (2) has made an immediate impact, finishing just 1.7L off the winner last start after a strong debut win. The wide draw is a niggle, but Parnham is a good jock to have on board and he's expected to go close once again. BONNY ROCK (1) didn't handle the heavy going first-up and improvement is expected now. LIKE NO OTHER (4) is better than he's shown his past couple and can bounce back.
RACE 5 - MIRO (1) was just 1.1L off the winner last start over 1680m and stretches right out to this trip for the first time now. The booking of CJP suggests he's ready to fire and he still has plenty of upside being lightly raced. Has improved with every run this time in and can get back to winning ways. NOD AND SMILE (7) stuck on well from beyond midfield last start to finish 3.3L off the winner. The blinkers go on again and Brad Parnham hops in the saddle this time around. Rates well off his latest efforts and should be right in the finish again. TROOPER PHOENIX (4) disappointed at Belmont last time out after a good maiden win at Bunbury two back. A firmer track will suit and Chris Parnham takes the ride which is a positive lead. Can make his presence felt. JIDDO (3) shed the maiden tag at Bunbury last start and has claims. DARK LOOKS (5) is ticking along nicely of late and has claims with Carbery hopping in the saddle.
RACE 6 - ONE PUNCH (6) is ready to peak now third-up into the campaign following a 0.9L defeat over this course and distance a fortnight ago. This is a tougher grade of race, but he gets a positive jockey upgrade and he should get every chance from the draw. Improving type who can go a couple better now. BANKS AVENUE (2) got the job done in a CL3 in Heavy going here a fortnight ago and rises in trip just a touch. Shaun O'Donnell now takes the ride and he has a strong record when partnering. Drawn well and can bring up back-to-back wins. TOURETTO (7) shed the maiden tag impressively over 1427m at Bunbury 27 days ago and looks to have plenty of class. The wide draw is a niggle, but the stable and jockey combo must be respected. MAJOR MARIO (4) is better than he showed last time out and getting back out in trip is ideal. Expecting a much better run now. ZOUBOLTZ (8) can improve now third-up and with Chris Parnham taking the ride.
RACE 7 - Good race to end the day. SOSO LUCKY (10) won like a good horse on debut and shouldn't be worries by the slight rise in trip. While she does rise sharply in grade, she draws a nice barrier and she'll be better for the debut run. Can win again and progress through the grades. DIRTY CHAI (9) led all the way to win at Pinjarra (S) 21 days ago, holding on to score by 0.5L. She's lightly raced as well and she's likely to be prominent from the outset with the aid of an inside alley. Can put her best foot forward. JUST ADORABELLE (7) ran over the top to win by 0.2L at Northam in a CL1. Expecting her to get back in the run once again, but if they run along up front she'll be storming home over the top. MEMORY PARADE (2) will appreciate this much easier company third-up and is not to be discounted. AMARLIE MISS (4) bumped into a good one last start and can be right in the finish if she's at her best.
