Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - GO JEANIE (4) was a little plainer last time but resumed in good order and will be fitter. Come back to the turf off those and that suits. Newitt sticks aboard and that's a positive lead. SKY EAGLE (6) resumed with a solid placing here and can build on that. Maps well and Darmanin takes over. BUSINESSISBUSINESS (2) found a place here on debut and it was a good effort. Has the rail and 2kg claim and also has scope for improvement. WILD NIGHTS (7) resumed at this track over 1100m last time out and finished sixth. Strips fitter and expected to figure prominently.
RACE 2 - WEDNESDAY'S BOSS (13) just missed here first up and hasn't missed a beat. She will be on speed today from an inside barrier and fitter can go one better. SIENA WOLF (9) brings a string of narrow defeats and is back on the grass. Deserves to break through and maps for the run of the race. I'M CHEV (14) came from the back and just missed on the synthetic on debut. He draws wide again but is improved and can make the finish with average luck. LOVE NEST (7) brings two close-up placings here to peak. Has to come back to a short sprint on a 7-day return and draws wide. Has the blinkers on again and won't be far away.
RACE 3 - HELLOT (2) won here and then came back beaten 1.4L in a 68. Keeps improving and maps well. Keeps Pires and can bounce back. PAGE (5) comes out of the same race and disappointed. The form into that reads well but she's been settling back and that cruels. Gets another chance. CAPTAIN MORGAN (4) surprised the market beating the above pair home and it was a decent effort from back in the field. Has a 2kg claim and would be a chance holding that form. THREE'S A CROWD (6) wasn't beaten far in the same race and will get a soft run. She is in the mix.
RACE 4 - PRESS FOR BOOM (3) delivered the hat-trick here second-up as expected. She can keep improving and Newitt goes aboard replacing the 2kg apprentice. Hard to go past. D'ORO STAR (1) led this grade/trip first-up and was swamped running a first-up favourite. He is right up to this and presents fitter. He will likely control the race and is feared. STARDARMUS (2) went back-to-back and then was plainer after. Has the rail and tumbles in weight this grade. Can't be ruled out. JEHBENTI (4) resumes and has pieces of form that would see him very competitive. Has trialled well and the betting will be key.
RACE 5 - Competitive. EASTCOAST MISS (7) brings improving form from the synthetic and is at her best on the grass. Gets in well with the 2kg claim and gets the nod. SANDUAL (3) disappointed against the above on the synthetic but made good improvement here prior with Newitt aboard. He is reunited and a much better effort is anticipated. DAYAN STAR (1) peaks off two well-bet wins. Loses Newitt but has a 1.5kg claim which helps with some of the weight lift. Needs a good ride but is in the mix. AGNETE (9) has been threatening and comes back to a sprint on a 7-day return. She's cruelled by an outside barrier.
RACE 6 - PEROLA (2) just missed first up and then drew wide and that cost. Newitt stays with her and she should appreciate the longer sprint. Fitter and she has more to give. ASVA (1) did about what was expected first-up and was much better finding a place behind Dayan Star. He's proven third-up and has plenty up the sleeve. A threat. GEE GEES ME BOY (5) was narrowly beaten in a CL1 finding more like his best. He maps well and Pires stays aboard. Has weight relief and that brings him into it. LILY LUELLA (6) tries hard and comes back to a sprint. She's been freshened and will be around the mark.
RACE 7 - TURK WARRIOR (1) went close on the synthetic first-up and then delivered here this grade. He's sharp third-up and is still shy of his peaks. Newitt stays with him and he can go back-to-back. SIR SIMON (7) peaks and rates well. Has gone close his last two and has weight relief. Pires takes over from the 4kg apprentice and the gelding has been kept on the fresh side. ALPINE WOLF (5) is a Listed winner x2 and has plenty up the sleeve. Is proven third-up and maps well. KALIUWAA FALLS (4) was slow off and did about what expected first up. The longer sprint suits and he's in the mix.
RACE 8 - IN THE OCEAN (3) was spelled off a big maiden win and performs fresh. He's promising and will be naturally improved. He races forward and can take the next step. RESTRICTED ACCESS (1) seeks the hat-trick and keeps improving. He has the early speed to manage the outside barrier and Newitt replaces the 2kg apprentice. THUNBERG (2) found more last time in stronger and that stacks up. Has a handy 2kg claim and will push forward. GEEGEES MISTY (10) has been plain her last two but is up to this at best and Pires is booked. Peaks and goes in at a price.
