A look at some of the Zipping Day action at Caulfield.
New Energy lands Australian first
New Energy has been a cause of frustration for punters, but he finally lived up to his ability when taking out the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m).
A winner of just one of his previous 18 starts, New Energy had promised a lot in his previous seven starts in Australia after a career in Ireland.
Trainer Ciaron Maher said New Energy was gelded before coming to Australia because of his unruly behaviour, while it had also taken the six-year-old time to settle into his new surrounds.
"He's been up in Sydney and the team have done a good job with him there," Maher said.
"He's come down here, he's settled in and he's a horse that had some really good form over in the UK and it's just taken him a while.
"I think this horse will go right in with it. He's a pretty good horse and he'll get a lot of confidence.
"He'd only won one race and tested a few punters' patience, but the team have done a good job."
Mark Zahra was suspended for 14 meetings after pleading guilty to a careless riding charge at the 100m mark for his winning ride on New Energy.
Zahra can ride in Hong Kong next Sunday before starting his suspension.
Blake Shinn was also suspended for 14 meetings after being found guilty of a careless riding charge aboard Kadavar in the Vale Elvstroem (2400m).
Welwal earns Supernova tilt
The second slot race of Southside Racing will see Welwal in the 1400m contest after his win in the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1400m).
Success in Saturday's race gave the winner a slot in the $1 million The Supernova at Pakenham on December 21.
Co-trainer Mick Price thought Welwal was underdone leading into Saturday's weight-for-age contest after a gallop at Cranbourne during the week.
"A very, very good old-time stable client Alf Gauci is in it," Price said.
"On Tuesday morning, me and Currie stood there, and he (Welwal) had a big blow, so we thought 'it'll need the run'.
"So, I'm sort of in trouble but, Alf, when you win the big one (The Supernova), you'll thank me."
Rumbled Again lands Trotter biggest win
It has been a big weekend for Cranbourne trainer Michael Trotter who had the majority of his small team racing in the past two days.
Apache Song gave Trotter, who has just seven horses in work, a win at Moonee Valley on Friday night while he had two runners at the provincial meeting at Yarra Valley on Saturday before it was abandoned with one runner remaining.
But it was the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1600m) that provided Trotter with his greatest joy as Rumbled Again raced to victory providing the trainer with his first Group race success.
"It's surreal to be honest but this mare has been amazing," Trotter said.
"She's been around the mark for so long and it was just nice to see her get past the post first today.
"She's done an amazing job and it's great for everyone involved in the stable. All the staff are involved, they have had a pretty amazing ride.
"It's a great result for me, there's no Christmas bonus required this year. I'm sure everyone will be happy and there'll be a few drinks tonight."
Wet no problem for Pizzazz
The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable held concerns prior the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) as to whether She's Got Pizzazz would handle the wet conditions and the trip.
Not only did She's Got Pizzazz handle the wet conditions, she handled her first attempt at 1400m without a problem.
Coleman said She's Got Pizzazz found trouble at her last start at Caulfield after a slow beginning, but the filly was on her best behaviour on Saturday.
"Given she had never got the seven furlongs (1400m) the wet was a question mark," Coleman said.
"The soft track was a question mark, but she's gone out there and proved that she can handle both."
Maher holds high hopes for Garza Blanca
With some heavy hitters in the ownership of Garza Blanca, trainer Ciaron Maher made sure all was in order ahead of the gelding's start in the Listed Doveton Stakes (1200m).
Garza Blanca registered his fourth win from 15 starts when taking out his first win in a Stakes race.
However, Maher did have concerns pre-race with the deteriorating track on Saturday.
"He's had a few little issues and he's been gelded," Maher said.
"I actually got a bit nervous when I saw the heavy hitters were here - Neil (Werrett) and Gerry (Ryan) - they all turned up and I thought, 'gee, we better make sure we've got everything right here'.
"I think he will go right on with it now, he's a pretty good horse."
Maher indicated another Stakes race during the Christmas Festive Season might be in order for Garza Blanca after Saturday's win.
