Consistent Klabel set to continue strong form at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.
A staple of consistency for the R & C Jolly camp, Klabel has barely put a foot wrong this campaign and is well placed to make a short-awaited return to the winner's circle on Saturday.
Denied a lip from bringing up four straight wins two starts ago, the five-year-old earned his way back to black type racing last start when sticking on stoutly into fifth, only 1.6L away from the progressive Press Down in the Listed W H Wylie Handicap.
This son of Vadamos has improved with each run under his belt this time in, rocketing to a new career peak of 106 on the Racing and Sports scale at the latest, eclipsing his previous peak of 102.
Klabel brings the superior formlines into Saturday's Open Handicap and will appreciate rejoining forces with gun hoop Jake Toeroek, who has scored aboard four times.
While he strikes a small but competitive field on Saturday, Klabel will relish stepping back out to the 1250m and will only have to hold his form to prove very tough to hold out.
As for my value play, we take a similar line through the form of Klabel with Jack The Lad.
The seven-year-old returned in career best form last month when rattling home down the outside to knock off Klabel.
Producing a new peak of 103, the W F Francis & G Kent team have their seven-year-old breathing fire this time in. Kept fresh with four weeks between runs, he goes super second-up and should relish the rise in trip. I expect him to be making his presence felt in the finish.
