Midweek Bendigo meetings can often throw up handy types and here are two who were beaten at this week’s card that should be hard to beat next time out.
BENDIGO RACE 1 – HOT TOO GO
The expectation was that Wednesday's first race would throw a handy type, but winner Plymouth might not be the only horse worth following. Runner-up Hot To Go made the wayward $2.30 favourite work for his win, boxing on courageously after working over from a wide gate to take up a prominent position and he held a 1-3/4-length margin over the third placegetter. Hot Too Go was only second-up, jumping 1240m up to 1500m, in what is his second racing preparation and trainer Danny O'Brien looks to have some good options at his disposal next time out with the 3YO son of Too Darn Hot.
BENDIGO RACE 2 – HAWKSURE
The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained 4YO is yet to place in three starts, which have been spread across three preparations, but he showed encouraging signs first-up, despite starting $21. Ignore the fact he finished fourth, beaten more than 2-1/2 lengths by Fiorenot, because he was entitled to drop out after travelling three-wide no cover throughout but was surging again late at what was the Shamus Award four-year-old's first start since April and first try at 1500m. He can win a country maiden at 1600-1800m next time out with a more economical run.
