Force too constant at Stawell

The Warrnambool father and son training partnership of Bill and Symon Wilde got the dream result in yesterday's $50,000 Stawell Gold Cup (2000m) when Constant Force defeated Hissing Sid to land the stable quinella. With good speed early, jockey Dean Yendall decided to take a sit off the early leaders despite Constant Force's usual race-pattern of leading in his races. After allowing Constant Force to quickly take the lead around the home turn, the decision to take a sit arguably proved the winning move with the early leaders Cross Constance and Bangerang Quikpic tiring to finish the last pair over the line. After settling last in the run, stable-mate Hissing Sid ran home strongly first-up from a spell and at one stage during the straight even looked a winning hope. In the end however the significant advantage in fitness proved the telling factor as Constant Force recorded his fifth win for the preparation and his second feature country cup in four starts.
