Fastnet Tops Day One

The Inglis Premier Sale kicked off in fine style yesterday when 129 lots sold for more than $27 million. The aggregate reached $27,426,000 for 129 yearlings sold with Inglis managing director mark Webster pleased to see the median return to a level achieved three years ago. "The $160,000 median is very similar to that recorded the last three years with 55 yearlings selling from $100,000 to $200,000 today," Webster told Shane Anderson on Racing Ahead this morning. "The clearance rate was where were expecting around that seventy-five percent mark and we're in good shape for day two. "The firugres were slightly down on last year, but we expect to be right up there toward the end of the sale." Leading agents James Bester and Demi O'Byrne, acting for clients including Coolmore Stud, secured the day one sale topper when they bought the gavel down at $1m for a Fastnet Rock-Catreign (Tale Of The Cat) colt. "We had seen a fair amount of interest before the sale in the Fastnet Rock colt and we thought he would sell well, but we didn't expect him to go for a million. From our aspect that's very pleasing," Webster said. Day two of the sale kicks off at 11am Wednesday, and will be highlighted by the half sister to All Too Hard and Black Caviar by boom sire Redoutes Choice.
