Morton unleashed on Sandown Park tonight in a heat of the Cranbourne Cup – stopping the clock in a sizzling 29.22.
His heat was won out of the boxes, stopping the clock at 5.02 to the first mark and from there, Vincent Bale was his only threat.
"What a race and what a great clash it was between Morton and Vincent Bale," race caller Dan Hibberd said.
Vincent Bale finished the fastest second (29.26) from the seven Cranbourne Cup heats.
Morton has drawn box 7 in the Cranbourne Cup which will be run next Saturday night at Sandown Park.
Smooth Plane was the second fastest qualifier in heat 2 (29.24) for Team Dailly.
In heat six, Fred Rose had Jason Adams looking for the rising sun at 11pm after he did the unthinkable, leading and then winning his heat.
"Once he led, he was never going to get rolled," race caller Dan Hibberd said.
"We'd be absolutely staggered if we saw that again in the final," Jason Adams said.
Fred Rose has drawn box 8 in the Cranbourne Cup.
"Those drawn on the inside do look to be the key chances," Jason Adams said.
"Kingsley Bale will lead from box 1, but the rest of the field is faster than him overall so he's going to be under the pump late."
